how to become a registered nurse online

The nursing profession is one of the most sought after careers worldwide. Aside from being a very respectable profession, nurses are high-earning employees. One can become a registered nurse by enrolling into a college that offers a nursing program. If you don’t have the luxury of time to literally go to school, you can still achieve your goal. Thanks to the continuous growth of technology, all you have to do is to learn how to become a registered nurse online. Like any other professional career, one should be able to finish a four-year course to earn a degree in general nursing. Although some may only require a two-year associate’s degree, it is ideal that you go through the standard four-year course. In addition, this profession requires you to pass the board exam given by the state regulatory board. Note that hands-on clinical or hospital experience is required in order to become a full-fledged registered nurse. These online classes will only let you finish the associate’s degree. However, with the completion of the program, you will be able to earn a RN qualification certificate, which gives you the opportunity to proceed to BSN.

Here are some steps and tips on how to become a registered nurse through online classes:

  1. The first step is to enroll in a university that offers online classes for student nurses. They usually provide a two- year associate’s degree program. This will cover all the classroom lectures that you need to learn and pass, including the fundamentals of nursing, anatomy and physiology.

  2. Once you have completed and passed the two- year associate’s degree, you will earn a RN qualification certificate. This means you are now ready to complete the hands-on clinical experience, also known as bedside experience. At this point, you are then accelerated to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Depending on the university’s requirements, you should be able to complete a certain number of duty hours and undergo clinical demonstrations.

  3. After passing both the hands-on clinical experience and classroom or online lectures, you are now qualified to take the board examination for registered nurses, or NCLEX-RN. This exam, which is unique to each state, will determine if you are indeed ready to work as a nurse in a hospital or clinic setting. There is no specific passing grade. The deciding factor of whether you pass or fail is the average of your overall knowledge.

  4. If you pass the board exams, you are now a registered nurse. You can work in a hospital, clinic or heath center. However, if you did not pass the board examination, you will have to take it again. Depending on your state’s board of nursing, you can take the exam a certain number of times before you are required to take remedial classes.

  5. The process of becoming a nurse can be quite a challenge. Remember that even after you have completed all the steps, you still need more practice and experience to become successful in the medical field. Science is always changing and progressing, so you have to keep up.

On a positive note, even those who do not have the luxury of time can become nurses. You just have to know how to become a registered nurse online and you are good to go.
