How to Color Gray Hair Naturally

How to Color Gray Hair Naturally

Getting gray hair is a natural part of getting older. However, not all people are proud to age gracefully with gray hair. One of the things that people do to cover up their gray hair is to chemically color their hair. The bad thing about this is that the chemicals in commercial hair coloring products are very harsh on your hair. In fact, they can irrevocably damage your hair, especially if your hair was not treated completely or correctly. Fortunately, if you want to know how to color gray hair naturally, here are some of the things that you can apply to your hair to cover up those gray locks:

  1. Coffee – Coffee is perfect for people with dark hair. First, brew a pot of coffee and let it cool down to room temperature. Once the temperature is bearable, pour the coffee into an empty basin, and then tilt your head towards the basin so that you can apply the coffee to your hair. Use a cup to pour the coffee on your head and make sure that all your hair has been well covered. Wring out the excess coffee, and let it set in for around 30 minutes.

Afterwards, rinse your hair. You will notice a slight change of color in your hair, with some of your gray hairs no longer noticeable. For best results, repeat this procedure several times in the next weeks or months until all your gray hair has been covered.

  2. Henna Dye – Henna dye is not just good for coloring hair naturally; it can also moisturize your hair, leaving it in better shape than it was before. This is advisable if you want all your gray hair to be covered up in just one sitting and you want to change your hair color to something different from your natural color. Henna is a natural dye taken from plants, so it contains several vitamins and minerals that can strengthen your hair. You can choose from three henna colors—brown, black, and red. To apply natural henna dye on your hair, be sure to read the instructions on the package, since every brand has different instructions.

  3. Sage and Rosemary – A combination of sage and rosemary is perfect for covering up gray hair in brown hair. Unlike henna dyes, sage and rosemary will not give you a completely new hair color. You can apply this to your hair by mixing half a cup of fresh sage with half a cup of rosemary. Put the mixture in boiling water for 15 minutes, then strain. Apply the mixture to your wet hair and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing. You should repeat this procedure as often as possible to achieve great results. This method may take several weeks to notice a change.

  4. Saffron – Because of the color of saffron, this spice is perfect for people with red and blond hair who have a little gray hair to get rid of. Simply boil half a teaspoon of saffron in two cups of water, and then allow it to steep until it reaches room temperature. Strain the saffron, and then apply the mixture to all of your hair. Wring out the excess liquid and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing. Once again, the saffron application should be repeated several times in order to achieve best results.

Unlike commercial ways of coloring gray hair, these natural ways may take some time and lots of repeated use to color all of your gray hair. However, knowing how to color gray hair naturally will help you maintain the health of your hair and avoid the damage and dryness that is common with excessive chemical coloring.
