    Remember, the grains of brown rice are a bit hard and tough compared to grains of white rice. Although this item is not really mandatory, it is highly recommended.

  2. Follow the 1:2 ratios upon cooking. This simply means that you need 2 cups of water for every cup of brown rice you wish to cook. Note, however, that the 1:2 ratio is not a hard-and-fast-rule because there are some people who are more comfortable in putting just 1 ½ cups of water on every cup of brown rice. In other words, your water component largely depends on your taste preference.

  3. Allow the water to boil, pour in the brown rice, and stir. Some moms are fond of adding little amounts of salt to taste, and a tablespoon of either olive oil or butter while the water is boiling. Anyway, these additives are optional because it all depends on whether or not you want to do so. Close the pot with its lid and let it boil for another 20 minutes or so.

  4. Reduce the heat and allow the brown rice to completely cook for another 15 minutes. You can extend the time up to 30 minutes, if necessary. It is suggested that at this stage you do not remove the pot lid. But if you like your brown rice to be a little chewy, you can remove the lid shortly after 15 minutes.

  5. Carefully serve your cooked brown rice and enjoy eating. By this time, the grains are a lot softer because the water component has been well-absorbed. Take it a little slower when removing the lid because, aside from the fact that it is still hot, steam will arise.
