how to cure bone cancer

how to cure bone cancer

Generally, primary bone cancer originates in the bone marrow. If cancer cells originate from the other parts of the body and eventually spread to the bones, it is called bone metastasis. Like most disorders, bone cancer can be cured if detected early. Nonetheless, how to cure bone cancer remains a challenge, not just to the patient, but to family members as well. Bone tumors can be benign or malignant. Tumors like: osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, osteochondroma, enchondroma, and chondromyxoid fibroma are benign, hence, not cancerous. On the other hand, osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, fibrous histiocytoma, fibrosarcoma, and chordoma are malignant bone tumors, hence cancerous. Malignant tumors develop in the bone cells, soft tissues, and cartilage tissues. The procedures in detecting and treating bone cancer are more or less the same with any other cancer. As explained in cancerhelp.com and cancerresearchuk.org, during the planning of treatment, the doctor takes into account the extent of the bone cancer, whether primary or metastatic, the stage of the illness, age, and the overall health condition of the patient.

For the curative procedures, read on below:

  1. Undergo surgery. The patient goes through excision in which the tumor in the bone is removed. This procedure leaves a hole in the bone, but the same can be patched through reconstructive surgery. If the tumor has spread to the nearby tissues, the affected limb may be removed as a whole like amputation. If only a portion of the tumor is taken away, the cancer cells have a high chance of recurring.

The other type of operation that may be conducted is called limb salvage surgery which involves the removal of a portion of the affected bone. Thereafter, the doctor replaces the removed part with a metal prosthesis or a bone graft.

Cryosurgery is another surgical option in which the tumor cavity is coated with liquid nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen kills the cancer cells that are left behind after the tumor is removed. The operated on area of bone is then reinforced with bone grafts, rods, screws, and cement to prevent fractures.

  2. Undergo chemotherapy. This procedure may be had before or after the surgery. The purpose of conducting chemotherapy before surgery is to reduce the size of the tumor to make it easy to remove. Chemotherapy after surgery is done purposely to kill the remaining cancer cells.

  3. Undergo radiation therapy. After surgery and chemotherapy, radiation therapy may follow to prevent the recurrence or growth of the tumor. This therapy uses an ionizing beam directed towards the bone area affected by the cancer cells. Normally, the doctor uses Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) in order to avoid damaging the unaffected surrounding tissues.

  4. Take aloe Vera supplements. After completing the chemotherapy sessions, it is best to take all-natural aloe Vera supplements.  Natural Cancer Solutions said that “The blend of aloe vera found in Aloeride is the most effective to fight bone cancer.” In fact, aloe vera products have the ability to stop cancer cells from growing and subdividing further.

  5. Take calcium, magnesium, and strontium. Bone cancer makes the affected bones brittle. To strengthen the bones, especially while the patient is recovering from radiation or chemotherapy, calcium, magnesium, and strontium may be taken. Milk is a good source of calcium.

  6. Ask for constant support. Family, relatives and friends should serve as the patient’s main support group. This is to make the patient feel that everyone understands his or her predicament. Joining groups which members are cancer-survivors helps. The patient can learn inspiring stories and relevant experiences from them.

After every treatment session, the patient has to relax and live a normal life. The world does not end after having been diagnosed with bone cancer. Remember, cancer is not a death sentence. Rather, it should be taken as an opportunity to become a better person. Going through the process on how to cure bone cancer is challenging. But, as long as determination and faith to make it are there, getting cured is very possible.
