How to Do a Chemical Peel at Home

Alpha and beta hydroxy acid, commonly known as AHA and BHA respectively, are mild solutions formulated to eradicate dead skin, acne, blackheads, whiteheads, and other skin blemishes. These liquid formulations are available over the counter. According to The Complete Beauty Bible by Paula Begoun, released online in 2004, AHAs and BHAs are also found in sugar cane, citrus fruits, willow bark, papaya, and cucumber. You can use these as natural ingredients when learning how to do a chemical peel at home. Instead of a store-bought peel, you can make all-natural alternatives from cucumber and papaya extracts. Here’s how to make them: Cucumber Peel

  1. Prepare these ingredients for a home-manufactured cucumber peel. You will need:

    1 small cucumber

    1 bag of chamomile tea

1 ounce of aloe vera gel

    1 bag of green tea

1 small pack of plain gelatin

    1 cup of water

  2. Peel, seed, and slice the cucumber into small pieces.

Load them into the food processor. Run it for few minutes or until you have a smooth paste. Pour the processed cucumber into a small bowl, using a clean cloth to drain the residue. Squeeze the residue in the cloth and save the cucumber juice in a clean glass. Set it aside.

  3. Heat 1 cup of water in a medium pan. Once the water is hot, soak the chamomile and green tea bags in it. Strain after 10 to 15 counts. Adjust the temperature to low heat. Put the gelatin in and mix gradually for few minutes, until it is completely dissolved.

  4. Remove the hot mixture from the burner and pour it into a medium-sized glass bowl. Combine the cucumber extract and aloe vera gel then add them to the mixture, stirring continuously to blend them in thoroughly.

  5. Put the mixture in the refrigerator and leave it in for half an hour to thicken.

  6. Wash your hands well with soap and clean water. Place some of the mixture on your face, using your fingers to rub it in gradually.

  7. Spread the mixture on your entire face and neck, forming a thin covering, but make sure not to touch your eyes. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes.

  8. Peel off the mask, starting from below the neck going upwards. Wash your face with warm, soapy water after removing the entire residue. Finish with another rinse of cold water. Wipe your face with a clean and soft towel to dry.

Papaya Peel
  1. Set the following ingredients on the table:

    1 small papaya

    15 ml of mineral water

    1 pack of plain gelatin

  2. Peel the skin off the papaya then divide the fruit into half. Remove all the seeds. Slice the papaya into cubes and then load them in the food processor. Turn on the food processor to blend the papaya. Once done, pour the processed papaya into a bowl with a drainer on top. Mash the residue to bring out the juice. Store the juice in a clean glass bowl.

  3. Heat the mineral water at a low temperature in a small pan. Once the water is hot, add the gelatin to it and stir gradually until it dissolves completely. Pour the hot gelatin mixture into the glass bowl to combine with the papaya extract. Let it cool for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

  4. Apply the thickened papaya paste to your face and neck. Once you’re done, rest for 30 minutes to allow the papaya peel to dry.

  5. Remove the peel, starting below your chin and going upwards to your forehead. Wash your face with warm water then rinse it with icy water.
