How to do Facial at Home

How to do Facial at Home

Having facials is not strictly necessary for skin care, yet it forms part of a good skin care regimen that keeps the skin soft, smooth, and clear. You can get a regular, professional facial from a licensed aesthetician who can remove impurities that cause blackheads and acne on your skin. Between the quarterly or monthly professional facials, you might want to do your own facial at home to maintain the health of your skin. Not only is a home facial convenient, it will also help you save money. Here are the steps on how to do facial at home.

  1. Cleanse twice

The first step is to prepare your skin by making sure that it is very clean. The initial phase to double cleansing is to remove any oil-based build-up, grime, or makeup residue with a light cleansing oil like coconut or sunflower. You can also use an oil-based cleanser. Pour a teaspoon in your hand and gently rub the oil on your face. Leave it on for several minutes and rinse it off with another cleanser. Choose a gentle cleanser that will not strip your skin of nutrients.

It is recommended that you choose a natural cleanser ideal for sensitive skin and does not contain sulfates.

  2. Steam

Steaming the face is a subsequent step to preparing the skin by softening it and opening the pores. You can hover over a pot of boiling water or facial steamer, or you can soak a towel with hot water and place it on your face. If you have dry skin, do this step for two to three minutes, but you can keep the towel on for five minutes if you have dry or combination skin. You can also put your favorite essential oil, herbs, or flowers in the water before boiling.

  3. Remove impurities

Now that your face has been cleaned and the pores opened, you can start removing obvious blackheads and other blemishes. Do not use your nails and be gentle. You can use a commercial, sterilized, blackhead remover, or you can use two layers of toilet paper. Press around the blackhead, and it should come out easily on the first try. If it is stubborn, leave it for the professional on your next facial. Rinse your face with water.

  4. Exfoliate

You can exfoliate by using a gentle scrub or an acid-based mask made for removing dead skin cells. Follow the directions for using the product. You can also make your own natural scrub. Apply the scrub in circular motions on your face for 30 seconds to a minute. Leave the mask on for five to 10 minutes. Rinse it off thoroughly afterwards.

  5. Put on a mask

After the thorough cleaning and exfoliation, you can put on a mask that will heal your skin. You can make your own natural mask, for example a honey-based mask, or you can buy one that says hydrating or healing mask. You can be a bit luxurious by heating the mask for ten seconds in the microwave and applying it to your face using a disinfected foundation brush.

  6. Tone

An alcohol-free toner will help close your pores and calm your skin. Suggested toner ingredients include witch hazel, lavender, rosemary, and calendula. Soak a cotton ball in the toner and wipe it on your face.

  7. Treat

Your skin may be a bit sensitive after having undergone the previous six steps. Treat the redness by applying a serum or good quality face oil. Gentle oils are best, and you can use the oil you used in Step 1. Let the oil sink into your skin for five minutes.

  8. Moisturize

Moisturize your face to seal in the oil and the benefits of the facial. Apply a good moisturizer thatÂ’s appropriate for your skin type.

It goes without saying that when you are following the above-mentioned steps on how to do facial at home, you should make sure that you are using products with ingredients that will not give you an allergic reaction. Test a small patch of your skin first if needed.
