How to Dye Synthetic Hair

How to Dye Synthetic Hair

Nowadays, people resort to wearing synthetic hair in order to get the hairstyles they want. This is convenient, especially if you change hairdos on a whim. Sometimes you may want to wear synthetic hair but feel unable to find the shade that you want. Fret not, because you have the solution – dyeing your hair. The question is, “Do you know how to dye synthetic hair?” Here are some tips for you to follow:

  1. First of all, you need to find a high-quality hair piece and dye. Synthetic hair that is poor in quality might easily give in once you start dyeing it. Although one of your major considerations in choosing a hair piece is its price, you need to remember that the cheapest ones are usually the poorest in quality. Therefore, settle for a reasonably priced and high-quality hair piece. You can tell that a wig is high in quality by looking at its weft. Buy wigs that have fine and evenly distributed wefts rather than those with uneven distribution.

  2. It is usually best to buy a platinum blond wig since this provides a good base for your dye.

you already know the color of the dye that you are going to use, you can buy a hair piece that is one shade lighter than it. Avoid dark-colored synthetic hair. You cannot lighten it.

  3. There are two dyeing methods to choose from – one is the fabric dye method, and the other is the cream color method. Nylon hair pieces are best handled using the fabric dye method. Hair pieces made of other materials can be dyed using the cream color method.

Fabric Dye Method
  1. Wear some gloves and an apron while working, since dyeing can be messy.

  2. Mix 4 ounces of your dye with one gallon of water and then stir. Although there are instructions on how to go about this, some of them may not be applicable since you are dyeing synthetic hair and not fabric. Make sure that the water you use is not hot since this will melt some hair pieces.

  3. Submerge the hair piece in the mixture. Make sure that every strand is covered with the mixture. Leave it for 45 minutes.

  4. Rinse the hair piece with cold water. Condition as necessary.

  5. Squeeze out the excess water and then expose it to the air to let it dry.

  6. It is important not to throw out the dye after soaking. If the finished product is lighter than the shade that you want, you can re-dye your synthetic hair by submerging it in the dye again. If you’re already satisfied with the color, then you can throw away the dye.

Cream Color Method
  1. Don your apron and disposable gloves.

  2. Mix the cream color developer in a plastic bowl. Follow the instructions indicated in the packaging.

  3. Remove tangles from the hair piece by combing it and securing it to the wig stand with pins.

  4. Divide your hair piece into sections, starting from the top. Separate each section with plastic clips.

  5. Using a plastic brush, apply the cream color developer, starting from the roots down to the tips. Start with the sections at the base of the neck, and remove the plastic clips as you finish applying color to each section. Continue this until you have dyed all the sections, then comb through the hair so as to distribute the dye evenly.

  6. Let the hair sit for 10 minutes then rinse it under running water. Be careful not to rub or tangle the hair piece.

Once you know how to dye synthetic hair, you can change your hair color anytime you want without affecting your natural hair. This means less hair damage and more beautiful hair.
