How to Fade Acne Scars Naturally

How to Fade Acne Scars Naturally

Acne is difficult to treat, but it can be done. After the joy of winning the fight against acne, the next hurdle is removing the scars left from acne. They are unsightly and remind you and everyone that you had bad acne before. Not everyone can afford expensive treatments that can remove the scars, such as lasers, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels. Aside from being costly, they may not be 100% effective. There are several ways on how to fade acne scars naturally.

  1. Know when to treat acne scars

It is often easier for fresh acne scars to fade naturally. However, wait for the proper time before starting with the suggested methods. If the acne mark is still moist or has a healing scab, wait for it to heal and for the scab to fall off on its own. Impatiently scratching off a scab will leave a worse scar.

  2. Ice them

New acne scars are often still red and inflamed. Rubbing an ice cube over them will reduce the inflammation by shrinking the facial blood vessels.

You can wrap the ice cube with a cloth and rub it on the scars for 10 to 15 minutes multiple times a day.

  3. Apply lemon juice

Dilute some freshly squeezed lemon juice in a cup of water. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and apply to the scars. Leave the juice on for three to four minutes before rinsing. The juice will lighten the scar, remove dead skin, and encourage new skin to grow. Alternatively, you can mix lemon with honey or sugar. Some people have mixed it with turmeric powder, milk, and aloe vera with positive results. Others put on a lemon juice and egg white face masks.

  4. Apply lightening oils

There are several oils that help heal the skin and lighten it. They are virgin olive oil, rosehip oil, vitamin E oil, tea tree oil, and organic coconut oil. You can apply any one of them or together for maximum benefit. Let the oil sit on the skin for thirty minutes to an hour. They will also keep your skin moisturized. Coconut oil gives the added benefit of preventing new acne scars from forming.

  5. Use baking soda

Baking soda is another easily accessible pantry item that can help scars fade. Mix baking soda with some water to create a paste. Apply it to the scars and then rinse after two to four minutes.

  6. Try an aspirin mask

Aspirin, known for fighting swelling, is a boon against inflamed acne scars. It contains salicylic acid, normally contained in pimple-fighting preparations. To benefit from aspirin, crush four to five aspirin tablets into a powder. Mix it into plain, natural yogurt or pure aloe vera gel. To get the gel, break off an aloe vera leaf and let the gel pour into the powder. Apply the mask on your face for a quarter of an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

  7. Exfoliate

If you exfoliate the skin to bring out a new layer, acne scars fade faster. You can use scrubs and gentle washcloths. Do not scrub too much or too often, or else you’ll irritate your skin. Make sure you keep your face moisturized since exfoliation can cause dryness and peeling.

When you follow these methods on how to fade acne scars naturally, do not forget to put on sunscreen whenever you leave the house. Not only will it help protect your skin from the sun’s rays, it will also keep your dark spots and acne scars from getting darker. The new skin generated by the methods mentioned will be sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is vital.
