Dribbling a basketball properly is one of the fundamental skills that a basketball player should learn and should master. NBA stars like Karl Malone or “the Mailman” and Michael Jordan or “Air Jordan” are, or at least were, experts on dribbling without a doubt. Learning how to get better at dribbling a basketball cannot be accomplished in just a day or two. Daily practice is necessary. Basketball, as team sport, is a very popular sport. The National Basketball Association, or NBA, based in North America is so far the most prominent professional basketball confederation. The NBA league was originally established in New York City way back in June 1946. It was first known as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). It became the NBA after it merged with the National Basketball League sometime in the year 1949.   1. Practice dribbling every day.

    n if you are not playing a game, always have a ball in your hands. If you are right-handed, start dribbling the ball with your right hand and place your left hand on your back. This will force you to dribble seriously although slowly. If you are a southpaw, then do the reverse. After practicing with one hand, repeat with your non-dominant hand. When practicing dribbling, stay low to achieve better balance. After you are comfortable dribbling with just one hand, practice transferring from right to left and vice-versa. Move your feet while you dribble the ball.

  2. Have strong arms and hands. Your hands must be strong enough to keep a firm grip and control the ball. To strengthen your arms and hands, it is best to lift weights.

  3. Practice individually before doing formal basketball drills. With formal basketball drills, there will be plenty activities that center on honing your basketball skills, including ball handling. Hence, it is better to have an advance practice at least 30 minutes before to get yourself acquainted with the obstacles and the drills you will undergo later on.

  4. Perform basketball drills seriously. Basketball drills will not only develop your stamina and endurance but also your individual skills. Take them seriously, especially those that develop your dribbling skills. Perform obstacle drills and perform them well. Those who train hard will achieve better results.

  5. Play basketball. The best way to test out your dribbling skills and get more practice is playing the game. Apply what have you have learned.

The point guard’s excellent court vision along with crafty dribbling skills allows the team to run an offense like a well-oiled machine, smooth and flawless.
