How to Get Rid of Acne Fast at Home

Irritating and embarrassing—these two words aptly describe how it feels to see those red, swollen bumps on your face. Having those blemishes also makes you want to stay indoors, so find out how to get rid of acne fast at home, and make your skin look healthy and smooth again before the next opportunity to go to a social gathering comes. When your pores produce excess sebum and get blocked because of the accumulation of dead skin cells or foreign microscopic debris on the epidermis, bacteria starts to grow and cause inflammation, which is how acne generally develops. To keep acne at bay or to avoid it altogether, you should ensure that your skin does not reach the point where it becomes a perfect environment for bacteria to grow. To learn more, here are the steps you can take to manage an outbreak:

  1. Cleanse regularly and consistently. Do this at least twice a day, especially if you have oily skin. You can wash your face once upon waking and before going to bed and use a mild toner to clean your face on-the-go in the middle of the day.

Doing this helps keep your pores from clogging and discourages bacteria build up.

  2. Use non-comedogenic skin care products formulated for your skin type. Also, make sure that the cleanser you use is mild and does not make your skin feel itchy and tight—indicators of harshness—after you're done washing. Aside from this, avoid using formulations that have exfoliating particles daily so as not to irritate the bumps. Use exfoliants only once or twice a week.

  3. Avoid direct sunlight or situations that aggravate your acne, such as profuse sweatiing or exposure to heat. If you do certain sports, make sure you change your top in order to avoid infection and clogged pores. Also, you can use antiseptic wipes on your neck, back, shoulders, and arms every now and then while engaging in sweat-inducing physical activity so that you keep your skin clean and fresh.

  4. You can also use crushed aspirin to reduce inflammation and swelling. After all, this type of medication is anti-inflammatory. Get one from your medicine cabinet, crush it, and mix about three parts water to one part aspirin so it turns into a thick paste. With a Q-tip, apply the mixture to the affected areas. Wait about 30 minutes for the paste to harden. Once the hardened paste starts flaking, wipe it off with a wet face cloth or tissue.

  5. You can also use baking soda instead of aspirin. Make sure to do a test on a discreet area of your skin first, though. Mix this with water using the same process described in step 4 and apply the paste on your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes or until dry before rinsing it off with cold water.

  6. Icing the cysts is a good way to minimize the swelling and close pores to lessen inflammation.

  7. Some acne outbreaks are due to hormonal or dietary issues. In this case, you'll need to avoid those situations or foods that trigger acne development. For example, relax and give yourself time to de-stress. Also, you may want to eat less of the greasy, sugary, and salty foods to keep your sebum production in check. Drink plenty of water and eat a lot of veggies and fruits to help flush out toxins from your system.

  8. You can make natural face masks using honey. According to Lifehack, you can mix two tablespoons of this with a teaspoon of cinnamon. Apply it on your face and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

  9. Another alternative is mixing finely grated cucumber with two or three teaspoons of lemon juice; spread this mixture on your face, carefully avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

An important factor in how to get rid of acne fast at home is not popping your pimples. Doing this will cause infection and inflammation. The scars created by inflammatory acne are deeper and more visible, so it’s best to let the abovementioned home remedies do their work. If the cysts persist, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
