How to Get Rid of Blackheads Overnight

Blackheads refer to open skin pores that are plugged with oil and dead skin cells. They look black, not because of dirt, but because of oxygenation. They lie right below the surface of the skin, which makes them quite resistant to scrubbing. A lot of people have problems with blackheads, especially on the forehead, nose, and chin. They can be quite gross too, and many girls resort to wearing full-coverage foundation just to make them less obvious. However, if you have problems with blackheads, you should consider figuring out how to get rid of blackheads overnight rather than always resorting to temporary cover-ups, which can sometimes make the problem worse. Here’s what you can do:

  1. First of all, start with a clean face. Wash your face thoroughly and gently using a non-abrasive cleanser. It’s a mistake to scrub harshly at blackheads because it simply pushes them in deeper and increases the chance that they will get infected and develop into a pimple.

  2. With a clean face, carefully examine your skin in front of a magnifying mirror.

ee if they seem raised or sunken. Raised blackheads are generally easier to remove than deeper ones, but you have to make sure that the rest of your skin isn’t broken. If you have active breakouts or some other form of skin damage like sunburn, wait for your skin to heal first because tampering with it could cause even more harm. In the meantime, work around the undamaged areas first.

  3. It can be tempting to start squeezing the life out of your pores, but do not do it. It will only further inflame your pores and possibly cause the follicle walls to break down. This could widen the area where dead skin cells and oils collect. You know those blackheads that seem to be especially nasty and tend to swell up? This is why.

  4. Steam your face for about 15-20 minutes to relax the pores and nudge the blackheads to the surface. A home steaming kit gives you an effective and tight seal around the edges of the face but if you don’t have one, you can improvise. You can either stand over a basin of hot water with a large towel over your head and shoulders or just lay hot towels over your face. If you opt for the latter, you will need several hot towels in rotation.

  5. Once your skin is steamed, apply a blackhead removal strip on the area. You can buy premade strips from most drugstores. Press down on the strip until you get a tight seal, so that it will take off as many blackheads as possible when you pull it off later.

  6. At this point, you should be seeing a lot fewer blackheads on your face, which means you can stop. But if you still think that more blackheads have to come out, you will need to manually extract each one.

  7. Give your face another steaming and immediately afterwards, take a comedone removal tool and gently press down on strategic areas to squeeze the gunk out. Make sure that your tool, your hands, etc. are sanitized to prevent bacteria from getting into your pores. Take your time and use a light touch—you don’t want to manhandle your pores because it could actually cause them to produce more oil.

  8. Finish off your now blackhead-free skin by applying a soothing face mask. A minty, clay mask can help the pores shrink while sopping up the excess oils from the skin. After 15-30 minutes, rinse the mask off with cold water and apply moisturizer all over the face. If needed, rub an ice cube on reddened areas before moisturizing.

Figuring out how to get rid of blackheads overnight can be a lifesaver but always remember that prevention is still the key to getting your skin looking its best. Wash your face twice a day, especially if you have been outside the house or have worn makeup. Exfoliate once a week, and make sure that you only use skin care products that don’t clog up the pores of the skin. It also pays to have a diamond peel about once every eight weeks. A microdermabrasion session doesn’t cause noticeable flaking, but it can certainly get rid of dead skin cells so that they are less likely to get trapped within pores.
