How to Get Rid of Body Odor Naturally

How to Get Rid of Body Odor Naturally

Even if you shower and wash your body every day, body odor is inescapable. When you sweat, toxins are flushed out and when bacteria is present, body odor is the unfortunate result. It is ideal to get rid of body odor instead of masking it with perfumes and colognes. It is even more ideal to remove body odor naturally, protecting the body from exposure to the harmful chemicals in commercial products. Here’s a look at the several ways on how to get rid of body odor naturally.

  1. Wash up

This is the easiest way to clean off sweat and get rid of the resulting odor. If you need to, use soap that has anti-microbial properties on body odor danger zones, such as the armpits and the feet. You can also wash with alcohol, white vinegar, or apple cider vinegar diluted in water to kill the odor. For those in bath tubs, you can mix a few drops of rose oil or rose water to the bath. Alternatively, you can add mint water made from boiling mint leaves. For severe body odor, you can add tomato juice to your bath soak instead.

If you add a tablespoon of honey in the rinse water, you are less likely to have body odor later on in the day.

  2. Dress clean

Do not forget to wear clean clothes after you shower. Wearing the same clothes again diminishes the effect of the shower. Note that if your clothes did not dry properly or still have detergent residue, they can contribute to bad odor. If you sweat a lot, wear clothes made of natural fibers, such as cotton or linen. Synthetic fabrics can encourage body odor because they don’t absorb sweat.

  3. Add protection

Deodorant is a popular way to ward off body odor. Choose a deodorant that is unscented and contains natural ingredients. You can make your own deodorant by mixing one-fourth teaspoon of glycerin with the juice of two dozen radishes. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake well to mix. You will need to keep this natural deodorant in the refrigerator. Or you can simply rub grated radish into your armpits directly. For severe body odor, you can mix a teaspoon of three percent hydrogen peroxide to eight glasses of water in a spray bottle. Increase the amount of hydrogen peroxide as needed. A third option is to put drops of tea tree oil, renowned for its anti-microbial properties, to water and apply to underarms and feet.

Antiperspirants keep you sweat and odor free but they inhibit the production of sweat so they are not recommended. You can also use talcum powder and alum, which are natural deodorants. Baking soda by itself or mixed with a little cornstarch has been shown to be effective too. Some people rub lemon juice on their underarms because the citric acid in the lemons kills bacteria.

  4. Control your emotions

For some reason, the body excretes a strong odor when a person is very angry or anxious. Coupled with a tendency to sweat more because of anxiety, body odor is more likely to manifest in such situations. Stop fidgeting or pacing around and try to calm yourself. This will ward off potential body odor.

  5. Avoid spicy food

Spicy food heats up the body and raises its metabolism. Unfortunately, sweating is a consequence of this. There are also some spices that contain sulfur and other compounds, which mix with the sweat and produce an unpleasant odor.

As you can see, there are many ways on how to get rid of body odor naturally without needing to spend money on products that may contain toxins.
