How to Get Rid of Cellulite on Your Butt

Cellulite has long been the bane of many women’s existence. According to a recent study by Cornell University, as many as 98 percent of all women have cellulite. Cellulite, it seems, does not discriminate whether you are young or old(er), rich or poor, celebrity or not—just look to tabloids and paparazzi snaps for proof. However, it has often been something kept hidden under clothing, like a not-so-secret shame.

According to fitness experts, cellulite happens when you get “skinny-fat,” or when your muscle mass is disproportionally low compared to your body fat. Skinny-fat is what you become when you try to lose weight just for appearance’s sake: You go on a restricted-calorie diet full of worthless food without doing anything to maintain and build muscle mass. As you lead a sedentary lifestyle, your muscle mass dwindles away and gradually gets replaced by fat; for women, this fat tends to be stored first on the butt, then on the backs of thighs and the hips. As the fat cells increase in size, they start to swell and create indentations under the skin. Before you know it, your lower body looks like cottage cheese, and not the good kind either.

Once you get cellulite on your butt, it’s a struggle to eliminate it, but then, you already knew that. It is not impossible though. If you are determined to look as good out of your jeans as you do in them, find out how to get rid of cellulite on your butt below.

  1. A cellulite-free body starts with a diet overhaul. This is the fastest way to get results, and it’s a change that requires a whole new mindset. You need to stop eating processed foods altogether: baked goods, candy, soda, white bread, pasta, chips, everything. Sugars and highly refined foods are cellulite fodder. Build a diet with a whole foods approach: heavy on lean proteins and raw foods. Depending on how well you can follow your new diet, you should see results in as little as 6-8 weeks.

  2. Burn fat and build muscle, especially in the lower body. This takes a combination of cardio exercises and resistance training. You don’t need a personal trainer or a gym membership to get started. Your cardio can be as simple as a daily 20-minute session of high-intensity interval training (HIIT): Alternate two minutes of brisk walking with 30-60 seconds of running. For resistance training, you can start off with lunges, squats and other exercises that tighten the butt and thigh area.

  3. Get quality sleep every night. This is something that most people overlook. Numerous studies have found that sleep debt causes the body to be more efficient in storing fat, and it also makes you more prone to sugar and salt cravings. A typical adult needs at least seven hours of sleep every night. If you find it hard to wake up to your alarm each morning or you find yourself feeling sleepy during the day, you aren’t getting enough shuteye.

Cellulite is ugly; there’s no argument about that. And what makes so many women so frustrated about it is that it seems to have no cure. It remains impervious to starvation diets; it can only be temporarily tamed by expensive massages and procedures; and it’s practically invulnerable to creams, lotions, and serums. However, as fitness and nutrition experts better understand the human body, cellulite is no longer the dreaded mystery it used to be. Now that you have the inside information of how to get rid of cellulite on butt, you are just three steps away to a better body and a more confident you.
