How to Get Rid of Deep Eye Wrinkles

How to Get Rid of Deep Eye Wrinkles

The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most fragile on your body. As such, fine lines show up more easily there than in other areas. However, if there has been no proactive measures taken to stop or slow down the development of fine lines, these creases gradually deepen until they become very obvious and unflattering. This situation then begs the question: How to get rid of deep eye wrinkles? Read these tips to find out how:

  1. Eye creams can give some benefit for cases where fine lines are involved. Even if you have deep creases, you may still find these beauty products helpful. Use these as your eye area moisturizer to help prevent the formation of new lines.

  2. The more effective interventions are the costlier ones, like laser therapy. Dr. May Lupo, a dermatologist from New Orleans, says that fractional laser treatment, recommended for those over 50, can improve deep wrinkles and lessen their intensity. This is an ablative resurfacing treatment that involves an estimated one week of downtime.

The full results can be seen only after six months because this is the time it takes for the collagen to rebuild. The laser works by triggering collagen production, which is a slow process. However, the effect can last a couple of years.

  3. Fillers are another viable option. These can be injected in areas of the face, even around the eyes, to plump up those places with less collagen volume due to aging. Generally, fillers work by stimulating or assisting in the collagen reproduction process. These treatments can last at least a year and a half or more. Some dermatologists use fillers in combination with laser therapy for optimum results.

  4. Botox can also be used to soften deep creases around the eyes. This treatment is usually used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, particularly on the forehead and around the mouth, by paralyzing the facial muscles in certain parts of the face. Injecting the toxin at a strategic position under the eye will help relax muscles that contribute to the deep wrinkling, giving the eye a fresher and softer look.

  5. Chemical peels can help reduce or eliminate deep wrinkles under the eyes. These involve the application of a chemical solution that may contain a combination of salicylic acid, glycolic acid, phenol or trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and lactic acid. The application itself may take only about 15 minutes, and it may cause a bit of irritation and stinging. The upper layers of the epidermis will then peel over the next couple of days, making way for the surfacing of younger, newer, and smoother skin.

  6. Microdermabrasion is another option, although this may not be ideal for very deep wrinkles. This is similar to a chemical peel, only that the tool used is a rotating buffing brush, instead of a chemical solution.

  7. Severe wrinkling and sagging will require cosmetic surgery. If the skin around your eyes is significantly lax or droopy already, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend an invasive option. The effect of this alternative is very significant and can last for years, depending on the person's skin care habits. Here, the use of anti-wrinkle eye creams comes in handy.

To help you determine the best option on how to get rid of deep eye wrinkles, consult a dermatologist you trust or one who comes highly recommended by someone you know. Your age, health, skin condition, needs, lifestyle, and budget will all be taken in consideration when deciding which treatment is best for you. The invasive option should be the last resort as it involves a considerable investment of health, time, and finances.
