How to Get Rid of Dry Cracked Feet

Dry, cracked feet not only look bad, but they also can be uncomfortable. Many people have to deal with this issue, but should you really put up with this kind of problem, especially when there are effective ways how to get rid of dry cracked feet? Give your feet the TLC they deserve and become a proud owner of happy and healthy-looking feet after following these steps:

  1. Never pick at or scrape off excess skin while your feet is dry. Doing so can cause minor wounds or cuts and may make the pads of your feet uneven. Instead, work with them after they've been soaked in warm water for the best results. This is because the water loosens the dead skin cells.

  2. Soak your feet in a large basin filled with water at the hottest temperature you can tolerate for at least 10-15 minutes. You can also add essential oils, Epsom salts, lemon juice, or a cup of milk, although these aren't really necessary.

  3. Dry your feet with a towel and scrub off the layers of dead skin cells with a pumice stone.

You can do this under running water so the sloughed off skin gets washed off and you can continue scrubbing without interruption. Concentrate on the heel area and its sides, as well as the areas where your skin has cracked or flaked. Scrub areas that have open cracks with care. Stop when you feel heightened sensitivity in your feet.

  4. You can also use a homemade foot scrub mixture consisting of baby oil or coconut oil mixed with salt or sugar. Scrub this in using a circular motion.

  5. Once you're done with the exfoliation, wash your feet and dry them once more. Apply a rich moisturizer or heel balm generously to keep your feet soft and hydrated.

  6. Cover your feet with socks so you lock the moisture in and let the moisturizing continue to seep through your feet. The best time to do foot TLC is about an hour before you go to bed so that your feet are imbued with moisture for the rest of the night.

  7. You can also use paraffin wax to cure cracked heels. After exfoliating and drying your feet, melt some of the max with a little mustard or coconut oil so this mixture becomes a paste. Apply this on the cracked portions of your feet and cover with socks. Wash your feet first thing in the morning. If you don't have access to paraffin wax, use candle was as substitute.

  8. If your feet are prone to drying and cracking, you should exfoliate and moisturize your feet on a daily basis to keep them from cracking or becoming too rough. Doing a quick exfoliation in the shower using a pumice stone will have you finishing the job sooner and more easily than when you opt to do it once a week or month. Then, apply lotion or oil on your feet after you've dried yourself and lock in the moisture by wearing socks before you go to bed.

  9. While you're still trying to heal the cracks in your feet, use cracked heel cream and wear socks to protect your feet from friction and prevent them from cracking or drying further.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water daily is another way on how to get rid of dry cracked feet as dehydration can also cause your skin to dry out. Avoid drinking alcohol or coffee, which dehydrate you, in the meantime.
