How to Get Rid of Red Zits Fast

Those pesky red bumps can ruin anyone's day, which is why it's only logical to zap them ASAP. Learn how to get rid of red zits fast by checking out these quick and easy tips:

  1. First on the agenda is acne control: Avoid exacerbating the problem by making your face or any other affected area, such as your chest, back, shoulders, or neck, an inhospitable place for pimple-causing bacteria. This means cleansing twice a day, not touching those areas, and making sure everything that come in contact with your skin is clean.

  2. Make sure you only use non-comedogenic skin care products appropriate for your skin type. Go for mild formulations, as strong ones may dry out your skin and trigger even more oil production, which can lead to more pimples.

  3. Spot treat zits with products containing benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, or sulfur as active ingredient. You can get them over the counter. Moreover, apply sunblock during the day to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays and help the treatment work effectively.

  4. If the red bumps get itchy or painful, do a cold compress. This effectively relieves the irritation and reduces swelling. You can use ice wrapped in cloth or just a cold, wet cloth you've placed in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes. You can also use a cold, wet tea bag, as the tea can treat inflammation. Apply the compress for about three to five minutes a few times during the day every day.

  5. What happens if a whitehead looks like it's ripe and about to burst? Extracting pimples is generally discouraged, as this could cause scarring and delay healing. But if you must, clean the area, and place a warm washcloth on it to open the pores and make the zit easier to remove. As dermatologists do not recommend extracting it with a tool, use cotton swabs to put mild pressure on the whitehead. If it doesn't yield to the gentle pressure, stop and wait it out for a few more hours or days.

  6. Hold off on the makeup when you're treating seriously red or big pimples. However, if you must use cosmetics, choose foundation with ingredients that fight pimples. Wash the makeup off right away once you get home. Never go to bed without taking off makeup, as this can cause more blemishes and aggravate existing ones.

  7. To reduce the redness, try applying Visine with a cotton swab.

  8. If what you have are deep, cystic zits, you may need to visit your dermatologist. A quick alternative would be getting cortisone injections, which reduces swelling in a day or so.

  9. Whatever you do, avoid applying toothpaste on your pimples as it can irritate or burn your skin, exacerbate the inflammation, and put your skin at the risk of scarring due to the fluoride in the product. This home remedy came about due to the fact that toothpaste used to contain zinc, but modern toothpastes typically don't contain zinc.

If you need to know how to get rid of red zits fast, specifically within minutes or hours, you can either get cortisone injections or apply makeup cleverly to cover up the blemishes. The key to the latter is ensuring your foundation or base is even.
