How to Improve Vision Naturally

Even those who can afford eyeglasses and contacts are interested in learning how to improve vision naturally. Some people want to save on their costs, some are too vain for glasses, and others don’t want the hassle of lenses or are scared by the horror stories they’ve heard of lenses getting stuck underneath the eyeballs. Read on for more tips.

  1. Go easy on your eyes

Aside from heredity and age, eyestrain is a big factor in vision deterioration. In this technological age, televisions, computers, tablets, and even mobile phones cause eye fatigue due to prolonged use. Enlarge the font on the screen so that your eyes don’t have to squint. Look away from the screen after 20 minutes and focus on something 20 feet away, maybe through the window, for 20 seconds. Even better, stand up, take a break, and walk around to improve your circulation.

Massage both your eyelids and the muscles of your eyebrows gently at least once a day. Rub your hands for warmth then massage your eye area or just place the hollow of the palm over the eye without touching it for a couple of minutes.

ternatively, you can use a warm towel or paper towel dampened with a little warm water.

There are several ways to reduce the swelling that comes with puffy eyes. You can use a cold compress, chilled spoons, chilled potato slices, or cucumber slices. Using potato slices gives the added benefit of removing dark under-eye circles caused by lack of sleep. Black tea bags steeped in milk work too.

  2. Eat food and take supplements that are good for the eyes

Supplements and foods that protect the eyes from rapid degeneration are abundant in antioxidants, zinc, beta-carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins C and E, zeaxanthin and lutein. Zinc is present in ostrich and turkey meat, oysters, crab, roasted pumpkin and squash seeds, peanuts and dark chocolate. Beta-carotene is in carrots, sweet potatoes, peppers, lettuce, kale, turnip greens and pumpkins. Vitamin C can be found in Brussels sprouts, bell peppers, broccoli, guavas, kiwis, papayas, and citrus fruits in abundance. Omega-3 fatty acids are in wild salmon, tuna, sardines, flax seeds, walnuts, soybeans and tofu. Lutein and zeaxanthin are in eggs, romaine lettuce, zucchini and corn. Spinach is a power food containing beta carotene, vitamin C, lutein and zeaxanthin.

  3. Perform eye exercises

There are several exercises and activities meant to relax the eyes. Practitioners claim that performing these exercises regularly can reduce or even eliminate your eyes’ need for glasses and contact lenses. Starting your day by breathing deeply, closing your eyes, and letting the sun’s rays penetrate your eyelids is a great way to ease the eyes from hours of sleeping into the daylight. Blinking often keeps the eyes lubricated. Looking at different parts of an object by making small, quick eye shifts without really focusing helps with eye motion.

A similar exercise involves focusing fast on a distant object then a near object then back and forth. This can be simply done through sports such as tennis or billiards. This activity can help in reducing myopia or nearsightedness, and hyperopia or farsightedness. The eyes do not have to make an effort when looking at a familiar object, so an activity that will familiarize your eyes with an object is a big aid.

For those with astigmatism or squint, walking along a plank, balance beam, or even just a ledge in different directions – forwards, sideways, and backwards – will force the eyes to focus on one thing. This is beneficial for sufferers of astigmatism, who see blurred images, and those with squint, who see more than one image.

A common theme among these tips on how to improve vision naturally is to make sure that your eyes are well-nourished and exercised. This will go a long way in preventing the early degeneration of your eyesight.
