Having been tested, designed, and developed during the 1950′s, vinyl fencing has been invading the fencing industry since 1984. One of the major advantages of vinyl fencing is the fact that it is completely a family-friendly item made of fully-recyclable and non-toxic materials. For several years, almost all vinyl siding manufacturers and producers offer a lifetime warranty on their goods. It is true that vinyl fencing wears better compared to wooden fencing.

Here’s how to successfully install vinyl fence panels yourself.

  1. Call the local building department. Before doing the project, it is crucial that you verify the existing fencing policies in your area by calling the local building department. In some areas, the fence height is regulated. It is prudent, therefore, that you ask for the allowable fencing height in your area so you can avoid violating local rules and regulations.

  2. Mark the location. After you have settled any legal setbacks and identified the property lines, the next step is to mark the area where the fence will be situated. Consider using a spray paint to prominently mark the specific areas for the corner post holes. Mark also the remaining posts observing approximately 8” distance in between.

  3. Set the posts temporarily. Use an effective post hole digger to dig holes measuring approximately 1o inches in diameter and 24 inches deep. For drainage, consider adding to the bottom a few inches of gravel. Then, as you put the corner posts into the holes, ensure that they are plumb and level. Brace the posts temporarily with 2x4s connected to the ground and post tops.

  4. Run through a string line. Consider running a string line from the tops of the posts. The string must be level and taut so you can have an accurate guide. The guide will ensure that the corner posts are put in place at equal height. Then, set up the remaining line posts while ensuring that each one is plum and at equal height with the corner posts.

  5. Install the fence panels. Your vinyl fence panels must have a top rail, bottom rail, and slats. Check the manufacturer’s product guidelines so you can assemble them correctly. The ends of the bottom rails and top rails must be snapped into the proper holes on the posts.

  6. Set the posts permanently. Again, verify the product instructions provided by the manufacturer and then properly mix a quick-drying cement. Thereafter, pour a sufficient amount of cement into the holes. You have to leave the 2x4s bracing overnight since the cement will still have to cure. Then, pull back the bracing. Into the inside of the post caps, manage to apply PVC cement, and set them up.

Vinyl fencing has four times the flexibility of wood and five times the tensile strength. It is far from cracking, discoloration, peeling, flaking, blistering, rotting, or corroding. If any of these fence problems occur, you are protected by the product’s lifetime warranty. Vinyl fencing comes in light colors, such as tan, gray, and white. The most popular styles are ranch, picket, and privacy.

Often, wooden fences contain chemical treatments that are confirmed hazardous. This is the reason why many homeowners prefer to use chemical-free vinyl fencing. Once you have found the appropriate design, prepare the needed tools, and purchase the required materials, proceed doing the steps above on how to install vinyl fence panels.
