People say that life begins at 40, but for some people, it looks more like life may be ending, and it doesn’t look good. This is more obvious with certain people, such as those who partied hard in their youth, smoked and drank a lot, or went to the beach without sunscreen. Now their bodies are showing the aftereffects, and they look older than forty. Those who have led a healthier lifestyle may already look younger than their real age. Here are tips on how to look younger at 40.
Take care of your skin
The skin, being the largest organ in the body, is the most obvious indicator of age. Premature wrinkles on the skin age a person very quickly. Continue to wear sunblock whenever you go out, but include the neck, chest, and hands this time. These parts are often overlooked when putting on sunblock but become very prominent when they start showing fine lines or age spots. Make sure that your car windows are tinted or use a sun visor since some people have a darker left side of the face due to driving in the sun.
When choosing skin creams, buy ones that contain antioxidants, retinol, and peptides. These ingredients combat skin aging by encouraging the skin to grow more new cells and to produce collagen, which gives the skin its plumpness and elasticity. A plump and elastic skin is less likely to wrinkle. You can buy over-the-counter creams or ask for a prescription from your dermatologist.
To keep your skin looking healthy and ward off wrinkles, moisturize at least twice a day. Take vitamin C and E supplements if you can; they combat aging. You can also apply vitamin E oil, canola oil, or olive oil on your skin as part of your moisturizing regimen before sleeping. When you moisturize at night along with your skin cream, your skin can heal itself without competing with the sunblock and makeup. Sleep on your back to counteract the effects of gravity.
Focus on your eyes
The eyes have very thin skin surrounding them and are often the first area to show signs of aging when not properly taken care of. Hydrate your eyes to minimize crow’s feet by drinking a lot of water and using an effective eye cream. Avoid using concealer on your eye area unless the shadows are too distracting.
When wearing makeup, apply eyeliner to diminish the effect of droopy eyelids. Use a powder and brush instead of a stick liner so the effect is less severe. Apply eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible, and do not apply on your lower lash line. When buying makeup, switch to cream-based makeup because it is less likely to go into the fine lines on your face and bring attention to them, also called feathering. You can smooth on a lightweight primer before putting on makeup. Choose colors in the hues of rose, apricot, and pink peach.
Be careful with your hair
If the crow’s feet are too visible, you can get a flattering haircut with bangs to hide the lines around your eyes. More often than not, a dated haircut makes you look older than your age instead of your real age. Look at current hairstyles of celebrities who are your age and up to ten years younger and ask your hairstylist to copy them on you.
You will notice that your hair no longer grows back as lushly as it had before. So be sure to take care of your hair so you don’t accelerate hair loss. Instead of plucking rare silver hair strands, camouflage them with mascara in a matching color. Curl your lashes and pluck your eyebrows after a bath or shower. When brow hairs start to turn gray, color them with mascara in a matching color except with your natural hair color is black. In this case, use mahogany-hued mascara so your brows do not look too severe on your face.
If you follow the above tips on how to look younger at 40, then you’ll be sure to stay and look young even into your late 40s.
