How to Maintain Good Hygiene

How to Maintain Good Hygiene

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, hygiene is defined as the science of the establishment and maintenance of health. It also encompasses conditions or practices of cleanliness conducive to good health. Based on this definition, it is obvious that hygiene is important if you want to keep a healthy lifestyle. It helps prevent the spread of diseases. In addition, maintaining good personal hygiene will make you feel a lot better about yourself and your body. Good hygiene is not very hard to maintain, as long as you make it a habit. Here are some ways on how to maintain good hygiene:

  1. Take a shower daily. Taking a shower once or twice a day can help you get rid of dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells that have accumulated on your body throughout the day. Just imagine how much dirt you are exposed to when you go to school or work every day. In addition, you should also wash your hair every other day to get rid of excessive oils and to prevent dandruff from developing on your scalp.

  2. Always wear clean clothes.

Make it a point to wear a fresh set of clothes every day. Clothes are good vehicles for dirt, so it is quite useless to take a shower and then wear the same clothes that you wore the day before. That includes fresh underwear as well, since dirty underwear can cause skin irritation and even infections.

  3. Brush your teeth. Make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day or preferably every after meal. You should also not forget your dental floss and mouthwash. Aside from giving you fresher breath, you will also have whiter teeth if you take good care of your oral health. You can also keep your breath fresh throughout the day by chewing minty and sugarless gum.

  4. Wash your bedding. One of the possible reasons why you might be suffering from acne is your dirty bedding. Oil and dead skin cells can build up on your bedding, causing skin problems such as acne. It is very easy to neglect changing your bedding, but make sure that you change it once or twice a week.

  5. Wash your hands. Many people underestimate the importance of hand washing. Make sure that you wash your hands every time after going to the toilet or every time that you touch a dirty or unsanitary object. It will also help to keep with you an alcohol-based hand sanitizer so that you can clean your hands anytime that you want. Alcohol is a good drying agent that can immediately kill bacteria. However, since it can also dry your skin, it is best to use sanitizers with a moisturizing component.

  6. Trim your nails. Keeping your nails short will prevent problems such as infected nail beds and hangnails. In addition, the underside of your nails are good breeding places for bacteria, so trimming your nails deprives bacteria of a place where they can proliferate. As much as possible, trim your nails on a weekly basis and include them in washing your hands so that no dirt or residue remains under the nails. Cut them right after bathing, since this is the time when they are soft and thus easy to trim. To keep your nails healthy, do not forget to moisturize both your nails and cuticles regularly.

Always remember that knowing how to maintain good hygiene is very important if you want to lead a healthy and clean lifestyle. In addition, good hygiene will provide you with the confidence you need and will boost your self-esteem.
