CD covers perfect the packaging of the CDs before they are sold in stores. A proper label can also enhance the look of a CD. Learning how to make a CD cover is especially useful if you burn your own CDs. However, making a CD cover is purely a technical matter, and one that requires skill. Indeed, the process can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there is now software that helps novices create labels. Assuming that you have the software, follow these tips to customize your own CD cover:

  1. Think of a good theme that will complement the type of cover that you will design. Give your project some careful consideration. Are you designing a cover for a CD containing love songs? If so, you may want to use a picture of a happy couple for your cover. On the other hand, does your CD contain family photos? If so, you should plan to use your best family photo as a cover. Just ensure that the design matches the nature of the CD content.

  2. Get a pencil and paper. You need to do a certain sketch to serve as your guide for the design.

You don’t need to be a good artist to be able to sketch. Just draw your desired design and search for a similar image online.

  3. Turn on your computer and open the program for creating CD covers. Some examples of these designing programs include Scribus and Serif PagePlus, which is free. Click the program software to start making your CD cover.

  4. Fill in the blanks. Choose “New” and select the CD cover template. You will be directed to a template for text and images. Change the present sample to your own words. You can do this by deleting the built-in sample texts and images, then typing your own new text. Experiment with the font type, size and color until you create an attractive cover text. There is also button to click that will instruct you to insert your desired image. Insert your chosen image by selecting one from your hard drive.

  5. Finalize and edit. The template might also ask you to fill in a short description, so just simply follow all the instructions until you reach the end. Make sure you go back and check the spelling of each word. You don’t want to waste a label due to a small spelling error.

  6. Print the cover design and you’re done.

Learning how to make a CD cover is not as complicated as you might think. All you need is good CD cover making software and an understanding of how to follow simple step by step instructions. Now you can label all your CDs and keep them looking stylish.
