How to Make a Sinus Bath Soak

So your sinuses are congested again, and they’re bringing on a headache and reducing your sense of smell and taste. Then there's that cough that comes with the nasal drainage of the accumulated mucus. When you suffer from these symptoms, a warm bath can help ease them and give you the opportunity to relax and recover. Start doing just that with these hints on how to make a sinus bath soak:

  1. Make a bath oil designed to give you relief from congested sinuses. A great mixture is eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and tea tree oil. Put a couple of drops in a bathtub full of hot water. However, if you're feverish or have a fever, use room temperature water.

  2. Mix together extra virgin olive oil, sweet almond oil, and wheat germ oil. Then, add lavender oil or the oil concoction described in step 1. Shake them together in a bottle until blended thoroughly. Put a couple of drops of this solution into your bath.

  3. Another combination you can try is 2 cups of Epsom salts and 6 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.

    The Epsom salts help soothe your muscles and calm you down, while the eucalyptus helps clear your nasal passages.

  4. You can also use a combination of lavender, orange, eucalyptus, and tea tree essential oils for your bath. The lavender helps you relax, while the eucalyptus facilitates decongestion. The tea tree oil fights bacteria and infection.

  5. Alternatively, make sinus relief bath tablets that you can easily pop into your bath water whenever you need to take a relaxing, sinus-clearing bath.

  6. First, gather the materials you need: molds (muffin or cupcake tins will do), water, baking soda, and essential oils, such as eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, and tea tree oil.

  7. Mix enough baking soda and water in a ceramic or glass bowl to make a paste. Adjust the amount depending on how many tablets you want to make. You can do a test batch and make additional ones later if you like the results.

  8. Add in the essential oils into the paste, and mix them in thoroughly.

  9. Transfer the mixture into the molds. Let it mixture set overnight. Transfer the tablets into airtight glass containers and store them away from direct sunlight or humidity.

  10. While you're enjoying your sinus-clearing bath for at least 15 minutes, inhale the vapors deeply from time to time. In between deep inhalations, massage the sides of your nose to maximize the inhalation of the essential oils. Massage the areas of your face connected to the sinuses as well; this includes the tops of your eyebrows, the area under your eyes beside the length of your nose, and the tops of your nose bridge.

Aside from learning how to make a sinus bath soak, consider putting a warm towel on your nose, eyes, and cheeks while you're enjoying your bath. This will help ease the discomfort or pain that comes with the congestion. If the bath soak does not seem to alleviate your condition, see a doctor. Keep in mind that bath soaks are temporary solutions appropriate for mild to moderate sinusitis episodes; they are meant to supplement treatment, not replace it.
