How to Make an Exfoliating Face Scrub

How to Make an Exfoliating Face Scrub

A great way to get rid of the dead skin cells on your face is to apply an exfoliating face scrub. Exfoliation is an essential part of every skincare regimen. Aside from shedding off dead skin cells, it also unclogs the dirt and oil in your pores that can potentially cause acne breakouts. There are many exfoliating face scrubs that can be purchased from stores and beauty boutiques. However, most of them contain harsh chemicals, not to mention cost quite a sum of money. Fortunately, you can concoct your own exfoliating face scrub using natural ingredients. Here are three ways to know how to make an exfoliating face scrub: Sugar and Honey Scrub

  1. Wash your face thoroughly with lukewarm water. Scrub your face gently with a soft cloth or facial cloth.

  2. Pour ½ teaspoon of honey onto your palm. Honey contains powerful antimicrobial and antioxidant properties that are good for your skin.

  3. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the honey. Lemon juice helps clarify the skin.

  4. Add one teaspoon of sugar to the lemon and honey mixture. Use both of your hands to mix the ingredients together and create a gritty paste. Remember to use fine-grained sugar, as large grains might scratch your face instead.

  5. Apply the mixture to your face using a circular motion. Be careful around your eyes and pay special attention to the sides of the nose and any lines or dry spots.

  6. Wet a washcloth with lukewarm water. Use it to remove the exfoliating scrub on your face.

  7. Wash your face with cold water in order to close your pores, and dab your face gently with a soft towel to dry it.

Coffee and Olive Oil Scrub
  1. Combine one tablespoon of ground coffee with one tablespoon of olive oil. In order to save coffee, you can use the wet coffee grounds from your morning brew.

  2. Wash your face with lukewarm water.

  3. Apply the coffee and olive oil mixture to your face in a circular motion, paying special attention to any lines or dry spots. Coffee contains caffeic acid, which can boost collagen production, and it has anti-inflammatory effects. Olive oil, on the other hand, moisturizes your skin.

  4. Do not use any moisturizer afterwards because the olive oil already moisturizes your skin. You can also substitute water for the olive oil, in which case you can still apply moisturizer to your skin.

  5. Remove the exfoliating face scrub with a wet washcloth. Rinse your face with cold water and dab it dry with a soft towel.

Almond Meal and Oil Scrub
  1. Place one cup of almond meal in a bowl. You can make this at home by fine graining raw almonds in your blender or food processor. Remember to use raw almonds, not salted or roasted.

  2. Add ½ cup of almond oil, olive oil, or coconut oil into the almond meal. You can also use any cosmetic-grade oils, but avoid canola, vegetable, and peanut oils, since they all have strong odors.

  3. Add a few drops of essential oil of your choice, like rose, lemon, or lavender for a more relaxing exfoliating scrub.

  4. Wash your face with lukewarm water, and then apply the scrub to your freshly washed face, focusing on dry areas.

  5. Use a wet washcloth to remove the scrub and rinse with cold water to close your pores.

Knowing how to make an exfoliating face scrub will help you save a lot of money. In addition, it will make your skin look more refreshed and give it a natural glow.
