How to Make Beaded Rings

How to Make Beaded Rings

Necklaces and bracelets are the most common pieces of homemade jewelry. However, you can also do beaded rings right in the comfort of your own home using inexpensive materials. The possibilities of style and color for your beaded rings are endless, as there are many varieties of beaded rings that you can make—seed beaded ring, spiral wire beaded ring, and thick beaded rings, just to name a few. However, as a beginner, you need to learn how to make the basic beaded ring so that the other beaded rings will be easier for you to make. Hence, here are the steps on how to make beaded rings:

  1. Prepare all the materials and tools that you will need:

Elastic thread measuring 5 to 8 inches

    Small beads of different colors

1 pair of scissors or jewelry wire cutters

  2. Determine the length of your ring. In this beaded ring, you have to measure the length by wrapping the elastic thread around your finger twice before cutting.

  3. Slide one bead to the center of your elastic thread. Next, slip two beads on either side of your thread.

  4. Slip a small bead on one tail, and then slip the other tail on the same bead. You now have four beads looped in one ring, like a flower formation.

  5. Repeat steps three and four to create a pattern until you have enough beaded rings for your finger. You don’t need to add a small fourth bead on the last set.

  6. Finish your beaded ring by slipping the loose tails into the first bead that you put in the elastic thread. Afterwards, tie an overhand knot, and then cut off all the loose tails to clean your beaded ring. Make any adjustments that are necessary, and then you are ready to wear your ring.

The best thing about this pattern is that you can also make matching beaded bracelets using the same pattern. Now that you know how to make the basic beaded ring using nylon, here are the steps for making a spiral bead ring using wire:
  1. Prepare all the materials and tools that you will need:

1 foot of gauge 14 or 16 wire, either sterling silver-filled or non-tarnish silver

1 large bead that can fit two strands of wire

A pair of chain nose pliers

    A pair of wire cutters

    1 ring mandrel

    1 metal file

  2. Determine the size of the ring by placing the center of the wire against the ring mandrel and wrapping it around twice. Be sure to leave the tails long.

  3. Bend the tails of the ring in a way that they are running out from the mandrel at a 90-degree angle.

  4. Slide the bead onto the two tails going to the base of the ring.

  5. Bend the wires to a right angle directly on top of the bead.

  6. Spiral the wires on top of the bead by creating a small circle with one of the wires on top of the bead, and then pushing the other wire behind it. Make sure that you do not overlap the wires. If the spiral starts to pop out, push it back gently using a small block of wood. Continue spiraling until you reach your desired size, but leave at least two inches of tail on each wire. You can now remove the ring from the mandrel.

  7. Grab each tail of the wire and move them to the opposite sides of the bead, and then wrap each end around the ring close to the bead using needle nose pliers. Once again be careful not to overlap the wires. Finish by trimming and tucking the wire ends down. Use the metal file to smooth the ends.

If you want your beaded ring and bracelet to be shiny, you can use crystals in the place of beads, but make sure that you do not use very large beads, as they may feel uncomfortable on your finger. Now that you know how to make beaded rings using nylon or wire, you can give them as gifts to your loved ones during special occasions.
