How to Make Easy Dog Treats

Treats are one of a dog’s favorite rewards. They look forward to them during and after training sessions. A treat can go a long way in encouraging a dog to pay attention and cooperate with you during training. It is your responsibility to ensure that the treats you give them are healthy and nutritious and have the right amount of nutrients for your dog. You can do this by learning how to make easy dog treats with simple ingredients that your dog will surely love and enjoy. Making dog treats at home will also save you from buying expensive pet shop treats. Here is a step-by-step instruction in creating an all-time favorite dog treat:

  1. Prepare the ingredients. Choose quality ingredients for your dog’s treats. The ingredients for the everyday biscuit treat are two teaspoons of dry yeast, two tablespoons of dry parsley and minced garlic and three tablespoons of honey. Also prepare a ½ cup of lukewarm water, 1½ cups of chicken broth, 5 to 6 cups of wheat flour and one whole egg. Set them aside while you preheat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Mix all the ingredients. Grab a large bowl big enough for the combined ingredients. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water. Next add the tablespoons of parsley, honey, minced garlic, the chicken broth and the egg. Form the mixture into stiff dough by gradually pouring in flour while continuing to stir it.

  3. Create bone-sized dog biscuits. Transfer the mixed bowl where it is covered with flour and knead the dough three to five times until it becomes smooth. Shape the dough into a ball which is ¼ inch of thick and then cut into a bone-shaped biscuit using a cookie cutter of the same shape.

Dogs are more attracted to bone shaped food. This will make it easy for you to entice him with the treat. Carefully transfer the newly formed biscuits into an ungreased cookie sheet. Set them 1/4 inch apart so that they do not get attached to each other during the baking. Do not waste any dough as you can still make them into smaller bone-shaped biscuits.

  4. Time to bake the goodies. Place the ungreased cookie sheet into the preheated oven and bake the dough for about 30 minutes. Carefully take the sheet out and turn the treats over bake for another 15 minutes. Keep them inside the oven until the biscuits are slightly brown on both sides. Take the goodies out of the oven and set it aside to let it cool overnight before giving it to your dog. You may also set it to cool inside the oven since this will make the treat crunchier and crispier.

There are other treats you can make at home which your dog will both like and anticipate. Ask your veterinarian what kinds of food your dog can and cannot eat. You will therefore be guided on how to make easy dog treats for him. As you bake and prepare goodies and treats for your beloved pet, put in some love and care as secret ingredients to show your pet how dear he is to you.
