Lollipops are a hit with kids. But even adults love them too. It is just so disappointing that most of the lollipops you can buy taste almost the same. If you wish to make lollipops with a special flavor that you prefer, then follow the procedure below on how to make hard candy lollipops. You can practically use any flavoring you want. You can also adjust the taste and sweetness according to the status of your health.  Here is the easy recipe that you can easily do at home:

  1. In a heavy and thick saucepan, mix 1 cup of sugar, 1/3 cup of light honey or corn syrup and 2 tablespoons of water. Turn on the fire to medium heat and stir with a wooden ladle until the sugar crystals have fully dissolved. Adjust to full heat and clip a candy thermometer to the inside edge of the saucepan. Stop stirring when the candy thermometer reads 300 to 310 degrees Fahrenheit. Be careful not to touch the saucepan and the mixture.

  2. As soon as you reach the desired temperature, turn off the heat and pour the contents in a glass measuring pitcher.

Again, be careful not to touch the saucepan or its contents. Add in 2 teaspoons of your desired flavor extract and stir in one direction. Add in drops of food coloring and continue to stir until you have achieved the desired color.

  3. Pour the hot mixture on layers of wax paper positioned at the center of the table. Form your desired shape while pouring. It could be circles, heart shapes or oblong. You can use candy molds to make it easier and to come up with a uniform size and shape. Again, be careful you don’t come in contact with the hot mixture as it is sure to hurt. Leave space in between shapes.

  4. At the bottom of each shape, embed a lollipop stick in the middle. Let the mixture cool down with the stick stuck at the bottom and center of each shape.  You need to move fast in placing sticks to make sure the mixture doesn’t cool down beforehand. The mixture is expected to cool down and harden in less than an hour.

  5. There is no need to refrigerate your newly made hard candy lollipops.  As soon as it has cooled, wrap each one individually in colored wax paper. Make the color of the wrapper match the flavor of the lollipops, like red for strawberry, yellow for lemon or orange for orange flavoring. You can experiment on other uncommon flavors like clove, cinnamon or peppermint. Just make sure not to go overboard as the taste of these flavors is very potent and concentrated.

Nobody is stopping you from experimenting on any other flavors that you think may work. Any shape you fancy is fine too. The size of each lollipop can vary according to your mold or the shape you created.
