How to Make Healthy Dog Treats

How to Make Healthy Dog Treats

There are a lot of ways you can show your dog how much you care and love her. One of these is that you ensure that she is fed healthy and nutritious food and treats. Although it is easier to purchase treats at your local pet shop, you will not be guaranteed of their nutritional content. You may not know it but those bags of goodies may just be full of chemicals that your pet does not need. It will be a wiser choice if you start learning how to make healthy dog treats at home. This will save you money and will allow you to control the food that goes into your dog’s mouth. Here is a step-by-step instruction of a recipe you can make at home for your lovable pet:

  1. Prepare the ingredients and your oven. Compared to store-bought goodies which only contain artificial flavoring, additives and preservatives, the ingredients needed for this snack are all natural and healthy for your dog to feed on. You will need one and one half cups of oatmeal, whole wheat flour, a teaspoon of baking powder and vanilla, two pieces of bananas, three teaspoons of honey, two cups of water and a bowl of dry yeast.

Set these ingredients aside while you preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Grab your utensils. It is easier to create and prepare food when everything is within your reach. For this recipe, you will need a large bowl, an electric blender or mixer to grind the oatmeal until it forms into powder. Use a wooden spatula to mix all the ingredients.

  3. Proceed to preparing the treat. The first thing you need to do is to prepare 36 muffin cups by greasing them. Grind the oatmeal using the blender and then pour this into the bowl. Mix the oatmeal, baking powder and whole wheat flour in the bowl and set it aside. Wash the blender and then place the bananas, teaspoon of vanilla and honey into it and let it blend. Slowly and consistently add water to the mix. When the blending is complete, pour the mixture into the bowl of dry yeast and continue mixing the batter.

  4. Fill the muffin cups with the batter. Set it inside the oven. Using a spoon, scoop out small portions of the batter and fill the previously greased muffin cups. The mixture should be enough to create 36 muffin cups. When all the cups have been filled, place them inside the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the muffin comes out clean when a stick or toothpick is stuck through it.

  5. Let it cool. Before giving the treat to your dog, which is already pretty eager, leave it on top of the tabletop to cool. After a few minutes or so, you may let your adorable puppy have some of it. Refrigerating your best friend’s treat will allow you to lengthen its days since you cannot give her all of it at one time. A muffin or two a day will be enough for smaller sized dogs while a maximum of four should be plenty for a larger dog.

Dog treats that are done at home are the best. Your dog will know that the food you are preparing is for him and he will delight by it. It is easy and fun to learn how to make healthy dog treats; you just need a little creativity and patience with it.
