How to Make Invitations

In this day and age, creating invitations is very easy. You have the computer, where you can simply download a program to create invitations for every type of occasion. You may also just visit your local craft store and purchase pre-made invitations if you have no time to do it yourself. However, personalized invitations have never lost their charm and will make the invitee feel special that s/he is invited to an important event. In addition, making your own invitations helps you to inject style and variety into your own invitations. If you want to learn how to make invitations for every occasion, here are the tips that you need to follow:

  1. Think of the occasion that you will be celebrating. The theme and overall design of your invitation will depend on the kind of party you are hosting, whether it is a birthday, baptism, or Halloween party. Once you have figured this out, it will be easier for you to create your invitations.

  2. Think of the symbols associated with your occasion. Thinking of these symbols is easier once you know the kind of party you are throwing.

For example, for a Halloween party, you might want to decorate it with images of jack-o’-lanterns, broomsticks, and a full moon. As for a birthday party, the things that immediately come to mind are balloons, cake, and candles. Be creative and think outside the box so that you can come up with original ideas.

  3. Gather all your materials. Now that you know what type of party you are going to throw and you already have an idea for the symbols that you can use, it is time to buy materials for making handmade invitations. Some suggestions include:

Construction paper with at least four different colors. Make sure that one of the colors is light enough for you to write on.

    A pair of scissors

A glue gun and glue sticks

    Colorful markers

Stickers, stencils, stamps, decorative tapes, scrapbook materials—anything that will help you design your invitation

  4. Take a piece of construction paper and fold it crosswise. Make sure that you use a light-colored construction paper, since this is the piece you will be writing on. You don’t have to use uniform colors throughout your invitations. You can mix assorted colors every time you make a new homemade invitation.

  5. Write the relevant information on the construction paper using a marker that contrasts with the color of the construction paper. The details should be written on the inside, answering the questions who, what, when, where, and why. Also include details of what they should bring (if any) and whether an RSVP is needed or not. As for the front of your invitation, tell your guests what kind of party you will be having. You can be silly or serious about it.

  6. Decorate your homemade invitation by using your scrapbook materials, stickers, and other designs. You may also cut out photos from old magazines and books so that you can recycle materials found in your home. You may also add glitter to your invitation, but be careful about this since it can be messy. You may decorate each invitation differently.

  7. Put your finished invitations inside the envelopes and send them to your guests, either by mail or by hand. You may also decorate the envelope as you wish.

If you know how to make invitations, you will be able to add a touch of your own personality to your invitations. Your guests will feel special receiving a handcrafted invitation from you rather than a generic invitation.
