How to Make Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is not just a relaxing element but also provides physical, mental and emotional healing benefits. If you find it hard to get regular supplies of lavender oil in your area, learn how to make lavender essential oil. You need to find a source for fresh lavender flowers. If you happen to be in an area where there are in abundance, you can infuse your liquid soap, lotion or moisturizer with them. Lavender oil has a skin-repair capability that will leave you looking healthy and radiant. Improve your well-being naturally by following these steps:

  1. Preparing a clear 600 milliliter hygienic jar with a wide neck and lid plus another dark one for oil storage. You will also need at least 300 milliliter base oil – virgin coconut oil if you can find some or olive oil. Choose two mixing bowls and harvest or buy some lavender flowers.

  2. Crush the lavender flowers with a mortar and pestle or blender before adding them to the base oil. This allows the flower to release its extracts faster into the oil.

  3. Pour the mixture into the jar and let it sit for two days covered tightly. Place it on a windowsill or wherever it can get enough sunlight. Shake the bottle every 12 hours.

  4. Check the mixture. If you want the lavender scent stronger, crush some more lavender flowers and add them to the mixture. Follow the same process from the mixing bowl to the jar. Shake the mix thoroughly again and return it to the windowsill for another 2 days. Don’t forget to shake again every 12 hours.

  5. Find a clean tightly-woven cloth like muslin to strain the mixed solution. Place it over the other clean bowl pouring the mixture into it. Squeeze the flower residues with the cloth to release some more lavender extracts into the oil.

  6. Transfer the pure lavender essential oil into a dark jar for storage. This time choose a spot away from the sun.

  7. Soak your homemade lavender essential oil into hand-hot water for ten minutes during freezing cold weather to prevent it from solidifying. Do this daily if the bad weather continues.

  8. Continue to store in a cool, dry and dark place. The mixture can last at least 6 months and up to one year if preserved well - without the possibility of bacterial contamination. Pour some on your hand when using it. Never submerge your finger or any objects inside the bottle insuring that no other substances get inside the bottle. Always close it tightly and follow the appropriate storage method.
