Creating this treat by yourself will give you a sense of satisfaction and confidence that your dogs are eating healthy and nutritious food. Liver treats supply the required amount of Vitamin A that your dogs need. However, feeding him too much may also lead to diarrhea. With this in mind, it is more appropriate to give your dog only a few pieces two to three times a week. Here is a step-by-step process on how to make your special liver dog treat:

  1. Choose and purchase the right ingredients. As the article title suggests, the primary ingredient for this dog treat recipe is liver.

    Common knowledge will tell you that the liver absorbs almost all of the food and supplements you feed your dog. Having said this, part of your responsibility as owner is to make sure that you purchase only the organic kind of liver from a trusted source and then cut it into smaller, bite- sized pieces.  A measurement of 2” x 2” will be enough for your dogs. When you use organic liver there will be less chance for the liver to carry animal body toxins. You will also need enough water to fill up a saucepan.

  2. Continue the cooking process. When the liver has been cut into bite size pieces, which will help cook the liver faster, place it in a saucepan and cover it with water. Bring this to a boil or until the liver has slightly darkened in color and is no longer pink. The cooking time for this should be 10 to 15 minutes. While waiting for the water to boil along with the liver, preheat the oven to 200 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Rinse off the liver when cooked. When the time has elapsed, take the liver out of the water and then rinse it off with lukewarm or cold water. While rinsing the liver, remove any foamy or slimy residue by gently rubbing it. You may also do this with paper towels.

  4. Time to bake. Place the well-rinsed liver on a baking sheet and set it into the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly brown or an inserted toothpick comes out clean. You may cut them into smaller pieces using bone-shaped cookie cutters.

  5. Clean up the area. Once the whole process of cooking and baking is done, make sure you clean up the utensils and saucepan that you used because the liver’s smell will not be as pleasant for you as the food is for the dog. Make sure that the area is spotless in no time.
