How to Make Marble Magnets

How to Make Marble Magnets

One of the easiest crafts that you can get into is marble-magnet making. Marble magnets are cute, little marbles that appear to have pictures and images embossed inside them. They look classy enough to be given as gifts or giveaways and are very easy to make. You can learn how to make marble magnets in no time! Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Prepare all the materials you need:

Clear marbles with one flat side. You can buy these from any craft store. It is best to choose marbles that are clear, and without lots of blemishes and air bubbles. Hazy-looking marbles will make your pictures harder to see.

    Thin cardboard

A hole punch, with a hole the same size as your marble

Old photos and magazines with lots of pictures

Strong magnets, around 3/4 inches in size

    Clear silicone

  2. Browse your old photos and magazines for images that you can use in your marble magnets.

You can also use the internet to look for pictures then print them out on photo paper. Make sure the images are high in resolution and colorful for the best results.

  3. Once you have found the ideal image, cut it out in such a way that it will fit below a marble. The easiest way to do this is to use your hole punch so that the image is shaped like a perfect circle.

  4. If you do not have a hole punch, use scissors instead. Place the marble on top of the picture then trace around it. Cut the picture along the traced line.

  5. If the image is from a magazine, the paper will probably be thin. You can harden it by pasting cardboard to its back and letting it dry for a few minutes.

  6. Apply some glue on top of the image and attach it to the flat side of the marble. Be careful while doing this. Smooth out any air bubbles by popping them using a toothpick. Let it dry for a few minutes.

  7. Using the same glue, attach the magnet to the back of the cardboard and let it dry. You are now ready to use your marble magnets. You can attach them to any metallic surface.

Learning how to make marble magnets is ideal for novice crafters since the instructions are easy to follow. You can use them as simple decorations in your home, say on your desk or on the refrigerator. You can also use them as giveaways or decorations at events. If you have a theme for your event, you can modify several marble magnets to adhere to this theme. For example, a birthday with an “under the sea” theme can make use of images of mermaids, crustaceans, or seaweed. Another ingenious thing that you can do is to replace the magnet with a flat-headed push pin. Doing so will make your marbles great ornaments for bulletin boards or corkboards. These are surfaces to which magnets cannot adhere. Use your imagination and creativity to figure out where you can put these marble decorations.
