How To Make Soap At Home

Instead of buying soap in the grocery store, consider learning instead how to make soap at home. Soap is a mixture of skin disinfectants, either natural, chemical-based, or both. It also contains moisturizer and other skin care elements that make the skin clean and healthy. Soap may also contain deodorizers and scents to make you smell good. Today, most leading soap manufacturers have carefully combined disinfectants, deodorizers, and moisturizers into one to produce bath soap. To make your own soap, follow the steps below. Secure all necessary items like a mixing pan, stirrer, soap wrapper, and all other soap components, such as water, lye, and lard or olive oil. Also, since you will be mixing different chemicals, be sure to work in open air or a well-ventilated area.

  1. Do not forget to use safety gadgets. Such gadgets will serve as your main protection in handling the soap ingredients. The safety goggles will protect your eyes from any harmful foreign elements. Your safety gloves will also protect your hands when you mix the soap components.

Lastly, a face mask will serve as your main protection against harmful vapors that might be generated by the chemical reactions.

  2. Refrigerate some water. Once cool, mix with lye in a mixing pan. As a safety precaution, slowly add lye to the cold water. Use a wooden stirrer, not a metal one as it may react with the lye and become hot. Remember, the vapors generated from mixing water and lye can be harmful to you. Wear a face mask continually. Allow the mixture to cool down for at least an hour. Place the mixture in a secure location where it cannot be spilled.

  3. Prepare the lard or olive oil. Place whichever you are using into a plastic pan.

  4. Pour the lye and water mixture into the pan with the lard or olive oil. Mix these components carefully and thoroughly for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the mixture becomes a thick pudding.

  5. Allow the mixture to settle down for at least 24 hours. As soon as the mixture hardened, you can cut it into bars or any shape you desire. Allow the bars to harden for 2 to 3 days. If you used olive oil instead of lard, allow it to harden for at least 5 to 7 days. After that, the soaps are now ready to be wrapped.

The steps above can guide you on how to make soap at home. Make sure to follow the safety tips to avoid any injuries. As a final safety tip, do not allow any children in the working area. Enjoy making your own soap at home!
