How to Make Your Skin Look Younger

Fact: Everyone has to deal with the aging process at one point or another. How many times have you taken a look in the mirror and thought, “has time really gone by that fast?” You can blame bad genes, bad habits, or stress, but the truth is unless you do something to bring back your skin’s youthful glow, it will only get worse. Although stopping the aging process is altogether impossible, there are ways to slow it down and rejuvenate your skin to make it healthier and younger looking. The good news is you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on invasive procedures and treatments. The bad news is it would require certain changes in your habits and lifestyle as a whole. With that being said, here are several tips on how to make your skin look younger:

  1. Keep those cells hydrated. Simple, right? Not so for a lot of people, especially those who seem to rely on energy drinks, sodas, and other artificial beverages to last them through the day. Did you know that the body actually diverts water away from the skin in order to support the vital organs (brain, liver, heart, etc.



    d prevent them from shutting down when you don’t get enough water in your system? The result is dry, brittle skin that is prone to wrinkle formation, sagging, and irritation. Water has and will always be your skin’s—and your body’s—best friend, so do yourself a favor and drink as much of it as you can. Eight glasses a day ought to do it, but make it a point to drink more if you exercise or engage in physical activities.

  2. Eat your greens. Do you remember what your mom used to say about veggies being good for you? Vegetables are not only rich in vitamins and minerals, but they are also excellent sources of dietary beta carotene. Beta carotene, along with Vitamin C, is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight skin cell degeneration and aging. It fights free radicals that destroy cells from within, thereby keeping the skin healthy and younger looking. The body also converts beta carotene into vitamin A or retinol, which, as you probably know, is responsible for good eyesight and glowing, blemish-free skin.

  3. Enough with the expensive creams and lotions. Most over-the-counter skin creams and lotions contain additives and chemicals that may not be as gentle to your skin as you first thought. A good substitute for these would be high-quality virgin coconut oil, but make sure you go for ones that are not hydrogenated or bleached. Coconut oil helps keep your skin moisturized and supple by boosting the strength of your skin’s connective tissues and thereby prevents the onset of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. It also aids in cell renewal, allowing your skin to naturally exfoliate dead cells for that smooth, even tone.

  4. Quit smoking (or if you aren’t, don’t start). Whether first or secondhand, cigarette smoke is chock-full of free radicals that damage skin capillaries. Aside from running the risk of having cancer and liver disease among others, the effects of cigarettes and cigarette smoke also extend to your skin’s health because they cause skin cells to dry up as a result of insufficient oxygen levels in your body.

The points above are just the tip of the iceberg when talking about how to make your skin look younger. As with any other goal you have in mind however, the key to being successful is commitment. Develop a regimen that you can follow, stick to it, and follow through. You won’t see results overnight, but you’ll feel the benefits sooner than you think.
