How to Pluck Eyebrows Perfectly

A brow makeover can do wonders for your face. It can open up your expression or add more character to your look. It can also help you achieve a more sophisticated, polished appearance. As such, it's important that you know how to pluck eyebrows perfectly so that your face-framing feature will flatter the rest of your face. Follow these tried and tested beauty tips to achieve those perfectly plucked brows:

  1. It all starts with the right tool. Get tweezers that are sharp and slanted as these are able to grab at tiny hairs quickly and will not pinch your skin as you pick at the strands, unlike the pointier versions.

  2. Plan your tweezing session. It's recommended that you do so right after showering because the warm water helps to open up your hair follicles and soften the strands. This makes it easier to pluck them. Also, avoid doing this right before you have your period, as your skin is very sensitive at this phase.

  3. To help ease the discomfort, you can apply some ice or something cold to the area or apply a numbing gel, which will temporarily desensitize you to tweezer-induced pain.

You can find this product in drug stores.

  4. Before you start plucking, trace out your ideal brow shape using a brow pencil or powder. The starting end of your brow should be in line with the bottom of your nose. The end point of your brow should be that point where your tweezer intersects your brow when positioned at an angle against your cheek, with the opening tip ending at the outer curve of the bottom of your nose and the upper end of the tweezer landing just at the outer corner of your eye. Pluck any stray hairs that go beyond the starting and end points. It may help to mark these points with your brow pencil for reference.

  5. The thickness of your brow should be based on the natural shape of the top line of your brows. You can fill in and draw the brows so you know whether the resulting shape fits your face or is satisfactory to you, aside from knowing exactly which hairs to remove. Use a shade that is closest to your natural brow color.

  6. If you want to ensure you have the right brow shape, you can always have yours done by a professional first, and then simply maintain the results via regular weekly tweezing.

  7. Stay away from magnifying mirrors—these may make you pluck more hairs than you should. A regular mirror will do. Make sure you do your brow grooming in a well-lit room so that you can see stray strands more easily and clearly.

  8. Pluck one hair at a time. Small changes in your brow can make a big difference to your appearance. This is why it's best to tweeze one strand at a time and step back to examine the results after every couple of plucks.

  9. Be careful not to create too-high arches, or your brows will look unnatural. Kristie Streicher, a celebrity brow specialist, advises that the peak should be in line with the outer curve of your iris and end at a point 45 degrees from the outer corner of your eyes.

  10. If you're going out anytime during the day, you can apply a cortisone cream to reduce redness.

  11. If you have lush, coarse brow hairs, style them with a brow-gel and brush, grooming them with upward strokes at the beginning of your arches and smoothing the rest toward the end of your brows.

Just in case you overdid your efforts on how to pluck eyebrows perfectly and took out more hair than you should, grow your arches in by not plucking them for about three weeks. If you want them to regrow faster, you can apply a growth serum nightly.
