These small, delectable seeds are packed with omega-3, vitamin K, iron, phosphorus and lots of protein. They are good for both children and adults. Preparing and cooking pumpkin seeds is very easy. Here are the basic steps:

  1. Gather all of the available pumpkin seeds. If you still have an unopened pumpkin, just cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds.

  2. Rinse the pumpkin seeds with cold water to rinse away the pulp and the strings. Remove any pulp that manages to cling to the seeds.



    Alternatively, soak the seeds for 10 minutes or until the pulps and strings are soft enough to remove.

  3. Prepare your baking sheet. If you don’t have a non-stick baking sheet, spray a substantial amount of cooking oil or simply brush it over the surface. This will prevent the seeds from sticking to the sheet.

  4. Scatter the pumpkin seeds on a baking sheet. Make sure they are in a single layer for proper cooking. If you have too many seeds for one tray, spread the excess seeds to another baking sheet.

  5. Sprinkle with salt. If you want, you can also add a few extra spices. Mix and spread your seasonings evenly over the seeds.

  6. Bake the seeds at 325 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes or until they are roasted. While they are cooking, stir the pumpkin seeds every so often to distribute the heat evenly.

  7. Let the seeds cool down for a few minutes. You can either store them or serve them as is.

Pumpkin seeds can also be added to salads, stir-fried vegetables, cookies and even cereals. Their nutty flavor is very distinct and can be added to various kinds of dressings as well. Add them to desserts like ice cream or sprinkle them on top of a frosted cupcake or cake. Not only are they easy to make, but they are versatile and easy to find.
