How to Prevent Acne

Almost all people going through their teenage years have one concern: They want to know how to prevent acne. It is true that there are a few who were blessed with clear skin, but the majority struggle with pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. There are even those who suffer from such severe acne that they have no choice but to seek treatments to alleviate the condition. Here are some acne prevention tips from which they might benefit:

  1. Wash and clean your face every day. Whether you have acne or not, nothing beats having a clean face. Washing your face helps remove the impurities and excess oil that cause acne. It is important to use warm water and a mild facial wash to keep your pores open. It will not harm your sensitive skin or cause irritation. However, you should avoid scrubbing your skin since this will only irritate it. Instead, use a gentle wash cloth and a clean towel to wipe your face. Make sure you wash your face two to three times a day.

  2. Eat a healthy diet.

Your diet plays an important role in keeping your skin glowing and healthy-looking. Hence, it is important to pay close attention to it. As a rule, avoid greasy and salty foods, as well as too many sweets. Studies have shown that many people respond to these foods by developing acne. The amount of soda, alcohol, and junk food in one’s diet should be minimized. Instead, eat more foods rich in vitamin C, such as fruits and vegetables. Go organic!

  3. Drink lots of water. Hydration is the key to having clear skin. At least 8 glasses of water are needed to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized.

  4. Don’t get stressed out. According to studies, stress can contribute to increased inflammation, thus leading to acne breakouts. While people have different reactions to stress, it is important for you to know if you are one of those who get pimples when their stress levels are high. That way, you can do something about it.

  5. Exercise. Exercise is not just good for your body and mind, but also for your skin. It helps to improve circulation throughout your body, thus leading to better skin. Make sure that, whenever you exercise, you do not wear very tight clothing. It might irritate your skin. It is also necessary to take a bath after exercising to avoid bacteria buildup.

  6. Watch out for your makeup. Makeup contains minerals that might be harsh on your skin. If you cannot totally avoid wearing makeup, use it sparingly, especially during breakouts. Study its composition, just in case you have adverse reactions to some substances. Remember to wash off your makeup before going to bed. As much as possible, select oil-free makeup and water-based cosmetics.

  7. Stop touching your face. Touching your face every so often with not-so-clean hands only spreads bacteria and promotes pimple breakouts. Also, make sure that you do not prick your pimples since this can lead to infection and heavy scarring.

  8. Avoid alcohol and cigarettes. It is totally uncool to smoke since smoking causes or worsens acne and a variety of other conditions. Alcohol can also lead to acne breakouts.

Based on the above list, it follows that changes in lifestyle are the key to learning how to prevent acne.
