How to Prevent Hair Breakage

How to Prevent Hair Breakage

Hair breakage is distressing because it is a sign of unhealthy, weak hair. It also causes hair loss and frizzy hair. There is so much you can do to help maintain and grow healthy hare if you want to prevent hair breakages. Here are tips on how to prevent hair breakage.

  1. Change the position of your hairstyles

People advise that if you must wear high heels every day, do not wear the same pair or heel height daily to give your legs and feet a rest. Similarly, if you tie your hair in a ponytail at the exact same place every day, let’s say at the level of your nape, then the same part of the hair will experience friction day in and day out. Hair is likely to fray and break this way. Add variety by switching from a ponytail style to an updo, braids, or just a headband. If you keep a ponytail, tie it at the middle or side for a change. Remember not to tie your hair too tightly.

A habit that you might have that you didn’t know could be damaging is wearing your hair in a ponytail or bun when you sleep.

hile it conveniently keeps your hair away from your face and prevents pimples, the hair is subjected to too much stress because it is tied while you toss and turn for hours. Gather up your hair from your nape and put it up before you lie down. This keeps the hair away from the nape. Sweaty hair on your nape causes discomfort. If available, use a satin or silk scarf or cloth to loosely cover your hair.

  2. Use alcohol-free hair products

Commonly used hair sprays and mousses contain alcohol. Alcohol causes the hair to dry out and become brittle. Brittle hair has a high likelihood to break. In the same way, shampoos with sulphates strip the hair of its natural oils, causing brittleness.

  3. Change your pillowcase

Regular cotton, while soft and absorbent, can damage hair that has a fine texture. The high absorbent quality of cotton is such that it sucks up the natural oils of our hair, leaving it dry. The friction produced by tossing and turning around in your sleep is not good either. A silk pillowcase or satin bonnet helps keep hair tangle-free while you’re sleeping. Studies show that silk has the same amino acids as the skin, hence it is also good for the hair. If you don’t have silk or satin, polished cotton will do. Tangle-free hair in the morning is such a treat; those in a hurry can easily damage hair with tangles and knots.

  4. Avoid putting wet hair up in a towel turban

Since hair is at its weakest when it’s wet, it stands to reason that rubbing wet hair vigorously with a towel damages the hair. Still, it may come as a surprise that twisting and pulling hair up with a towel is a factor of hair breakage. The towel is heavy, so when you multi-task with the turban on your head, gravity pulls down the towel and your hair with it. If you notice many short hairs on your forehead, they may not be baby hair. They could be hair broken by a towel turban. Squeeze out the water from your hair with a towel or white paper towels. Clip up your hair gently if you just need it to be away from your body as you get ready in the morning. Let your hair air dry, dry it with an electric fan, or use the cool setting on your hair dryer.

Aside from conditioning regularly to keep the hair moisturized and strong, these tips on how to prevent hair breakage may have been unknown to you before. Now, you can start changing habits that are not good for your hair.
