how to prevent HIV

There are various myths explaining the existence of HIV/AIDS. A bizarre story blamed it on human beings having sex with monkeys. It is also rumored that HIV is chemically formulated to create a disease that has no cure to profit from expensive drugs to contain it. Regardless of its origin, HIV that stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the virus causing AIDS which is translated as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. You will know the ABCs of how to prevent HIV in this article plus more! HIV attacks and destroys the CD4 cells of the immune system and weakens it until anti-bodies can no longer be produced. It‘s only when there’s a full outbreak of HIV that it becomes AIDS. The virus can be transmitted by bodily fluids like blood, semen, or vaginal secretions through open wounds or cuts. Unprotected sex, irresponsible blood transfusions, and unsanitary use of injections and other syringes are most common culprits. So far, there’s still no cure for it.  It is only wise to prevent it. And his how:

  1. Abstain from sex if you cannot be responsible for your safety.

s is easier said than done, but there are still people who have managed to do this, at least until marriage. Societies where pre-marital sex is not tolerated due to cultural and religious beliefs prove to have very low cases of HIV.

  2. Be faithful to your partner. This should not be too much to ask, but in the real sense of the world, straying partners seem very real. It only takes one mistake to get infected. You are not only exposing yourself to HIV/AIDS but also your spouse and unborn children. There’s nothing worse than watching loved ones suffer from the disease because of you. Worse is if any of them die before you due to a weak immune system.

  3. Condom protection should be your method if you can’t help having sex with that new person in your life. Although it’s not guaranteed 100 per cent, you have better chances for sparing yourself from HIV infection and unwanted pregnancy if you use condoms. Leaks and ruptures can happen, but as long as you choose quality condoms and avoid doing it too rough, they can be avoided.

  4. Seek for a confidential HIV/AIDS test if you've never been tested before after some unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. At least you’ll gain peace of mind and be more careful in protecting yourself. Unfortunately, if you are already infected, you can protect others from the disease by being responsible. It’s also recommended for people who are using needles which have had some blood transfused into them and those who have other sexually transmitted diseases to take precautions.

  5. Treat any sexually transmitted disease acquired at once, like gonorrhea, syphilis, and Chlamydia. They will make you prone to HIV if left untreated. Rashes, open wounds, and cuts caused by these STDs can be the entry of HIV-infected fluids in to your body.

  6. Do not self-administer intravenous drugs. Intravenous drugs must be prescribed by doctors. In most cases, they are administered by a nurse or a licensed medical practitioner. Illegal drugs can not only make you vulnerable to HIV but can also have serious psychological effects on you.

  7. Stay away from alcohol and drug abuse. Too much of these substances can be disastrous to your health. You will also belong to the HIV high-risk group if the company that you keep is alcohol and drug abusers. Who will care about safe sex when you’ve got a spinning head?

There’s no point asking a potential partner in life about their past sexual experiences in detail. No one wants to be caught by their own tongue! Just follow these straight-to-the-point tips on how to prevent HIV and you’ll be glad you did.
