How to Properly Use Shaving Cream on Pubic Hair

Personal grooming includes trimming the hair down there. However, some would prefer to use a razor and shaving cream to get the job done fast and easily. While this method is indeed suitable for those who want things done in a jiffy, it's also one that requires more maintenance than other options. But that's another story. To learn how to properly use shaving cream on pubic hair, read on:

  1. Before you begin the grooming session, have everything you need ready and at hand. It’s easiest to do it in the tub or shower stall so you can easily wash off the shaving cream.

  2. Get shaving cream especially made for the genital area, as the skin there is more sensitive than most other areas of your body.

  3. If you have sensitive skin, go for hypoallergenic or unscented creams. It's also wise to check the ingredients to make sure you’re not allergic to anything. To make sure, you can do a skin test prior to the shaving session. Apply a bit of cream on a small spot of skin near your genital area and wait about 30 minutes to an hour to see if you get a reaction.

t's best to let 24 hours pass before you decide to go ahead with the product. If there's no reaction, continue to the next step.

  4. Trim your pubic hair a bit before you start shaving so it's easier for the razor to cut through the follicles.

  5. Wet the area with some warm water for about 3 minutes, or better yet, take a hot shower or bath so that your pubic hair is more pliable and the area to be shaved is softer and smoother, which will give you better results.

  6. When you're done, dry the area a bit and wait a couple of minutes for your skin to be ready. You can apply a bit of shaving oil to prep the area and make it easier for the razor to glide on the skin and reduce nicks.

  7. Although you're giving your skin time to recover, your pubic area should be a bit damp, but not really wet so that when you begin shaving the zone is still pliable and easier to work with.

  8. Put generous quantities of shaving cream onto the area. Work it into the skin a bit so that the hair is lifted at the base, which will prime it for a closer shave. Leave it be for a few minutes.

  9. When you're ready to begin, pull the skin up a bit so it's tight and let your razor run through it in the same direction as the hair growth without pressing the razor down or applying pressure. If you don't have problems with ingrown hair, you can do the second stroke upward or in the opposite direction of the growth.

  10. You can reapply shaving cream as needed, although you should ensure every shaving stroke counts so you don't pass the blade over the same area too many times.

Make sure you're not shaving your actual genitals, just the skin around it, to avoid injuring yourself. Also, part of knowing how to properly use shaving cream on pubic hair means not using soap as a replacement; it is drying and may not protect you from razor cuts that well.
