How to Quickly Remove Back Hair with Topical Cream

There are many different ways to remove unwanted body hair, but the use of topical creams, or depilatories, are popular for larger areas of the body like the back because it is relatively painless and quick. Unlike waxing or threading, topical creams can remove hair at the root without causing a lot of pain and trauma; it may take a bit more time and preparation as compared to shaving, but the results last longer than just a day or two. Depilatories are strong enough to dissolve the hair strands that it comes in contact with, but they are gentle enough not to burn or irritate the skin. Depending on how fast your hair grows back, you can go between 10 to 14 days per session. Here’s how to quickly remove back hair with topical cream.

  1. Your prep begins one day before your hair removal session. First, test some of the topical cream that you plan to use on the inside of your elbow. Leave it on for the amount of time indicated by the manufacturer, which is usually somewhere between 5 to 10 minutes, then wash it off thoroughly.

Check for any reaction for the rest of the day, making sure that you don’t use any other product on that patch of skin. In the meantime, get in the shower and give your back a good rubdown using an exfoliating body scrub and a loofah to get rid of dead skin cells.

  2. If the test patch on your elbow does not show any sensitivity reaction after a 24-hour period, then proceed. If it does, try another cream. Once you’ve found a cream suitable for your skin, take a quick shower before applying the depilatory cream to open up your pores and soften the hair shafts.

  3. Put on a pair of thin disposable gloves and apply a thin layer of depilatory cream on the areas of hair growth. Unless you are unnaturally flexible, you may need a helper. Most topical hair removal creams come with some sort of tool to spread the cream and then later scrape it off, but if yours doesn’t, improvise with something flat like a disposable spatula. Just make sure you use something made of wood or plastic as some creams react with metal.

  4. Leave the cream on for as long as instructed. To test if it is ready for rinsing, scrape some off and check if the skin underneath is hair-free. If some hair strands still remain, leave the cream on for a few more minutes.

  5. Once the cream has done its job, gently scrape it off, keeping in mind that your skin will be temporarily sensitive. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water, pat the skin dry and apply a soothing, alcohol-free moisturizer to the area.

Most hair removal creams cost under $15 per tube, and if you are only going to be using it for your back, one tube can last two to four uses. What’s more, it doesn’t hurt like waxing does, and you don’t have to wait for hair to grow to a certain length in between sessions. Also, when regrowth comes in, there is no irritating stubble because the ends grow in rounded rather than sharp. After discovering how to quickly remove back hair with topical cream, you might never resort to waxing or shaving again.
