How to Regrow Hair

The mechanics of how to regrow hair is not at all straightforward. The causes of hair loss are too varied, and individuals respond to treatments quite differently, so there is no one-size-fits-all solution to this common problem. If regrowing hair is a big concern for you, then the following suggestions may help. Try them and see.

  1. Eat healthy. Hair gets its nourishment from the scalp before it grows out. After the hair emerges from the scalp, it’s just dead cells. So the way to nourish hair is from the inside. Good nutrition is essential to healthy hair. A poor diet, constant intake of junk food and empty calories, yo-yo dieting, or habitual starvation and binging all take a toll on hair. If the body is not properly nourished with the vitamins and minerals it needs, hair growth will be severely affected. It will result in stringy, dull hair and may inhibit growth. So be sure to eat a well-balanced diet that’s rich in protein and vitamins and minerals, and drink plenty of water.

  2. Try supplements.

Multivitamins are important sources of Vitamin C and iron, which are also important for stimulating hair growth.

  3. Apply aloe vera on the scalp. Split an aloe vera leaf in half crosswise, then apply the gel-like substance directly onto the scalp. Massage for three to five minutes, and leave on for another 15 minutes before shampooing or just simply rinsing off. If you can do it daily, so much the better; but skip the shampoo as this will only dry out your hair. Some people have reported success with this method, crediting aloe vera with certain properties that encourage the growth of hair. If your hair loss is not severe, this could be helpful in preventing the problem from worsening.

  4. Other scalp treatments to try: egg yolk, olive oil, castor oil mixed in a 1:1 ratio. Apply on hair, leave on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing off. It’s best if you do this along with an improvised at-home head steamer: take a towel, dip it in hot water (be sure to use rubber gloves to make sure you don’t burn your hands), and wring it out. Apply like a turban around your head with all your hair tucked inside. If you don’t want to get oil on your towel, use a shower cap before putting on the towel. This will give off heat and make the oil treatment more effective.

  5. Use shampoo with Nizoral in it. It promotes a healthy scalp and thus helps hair growth. It is available in the shampoo aisle of local grocery stores, although one with a stronger concentration can only be bought with prescription. When used about thrice weekly, it could increase hair count by optimizing scalp conditions so that fewer hair strands fall off or break.

  6. Consult your doctor. There may be health reasons behind your hair loss, or it could be the side effect of a medication you’re taking. You may also inquire about possible drugs to treat the problem. The FDA has approved three drugs as possible treatment for hair loss: dutasteride, finasteride and minoxidil. You will need to ask your doctor about possible side effects and complications with any existng medical conditions you may have.

In all cases, hair loss must be treated as soon as it’s observed. Dealing with the problem quickly will arrest the problem sooner and prevent it from getting worse or from reaching the irreversible stage.
