How to Remove Hair Bonding Glue

Removing hair extensions or weaves can leave behind glue residue. Now this can be a pain to resolve, as it can possibly damage your tresses or even cause hair loss if you don't know how to remove hair bonding glue properly. Fortunately, you can to do just that without compromising your hair health. Start the process with these guidelines:

  1. One option is hair bonding glue removers, which you can get at most stores. The shampoo type cleans your hair and loosens up the glue at the same time. Make sure to really massage the remover into your scalp, hair roots, or the areas with glue. This will loosen it up so that it slides off when tugged at gently.

  2. Another option is using oil. Use any type, be it olive, coconut, almond, mineral or baby oil, although the natural ones are the best choices, as they are more absorbent. Apply it on the areas of your hair or scalp where the bonding glue is, and leave it on for at least 15 minutes.

  3. Then, comb your hair carefully to remove the glue.

Add more oil as necessary. Never forcibly tug at your hair, as doing so may damage it or rip out some strands. For better results, blow dry the affected areas on high heat, as the combination of heat and oil loosens the hair glue's bonds.

  4. Wash your hair with clarifying shampoo to remove the oil and remaining glue. Add in a generous helping of conditioner, and thickly coat your tresses. Massage the conditioner into your scalp and the areas with glue. Then, cover your wet mane with a shower cap, and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water, using your fingers to help the glue slide off.

  5. Carefully comb your hair to dislodge any glue that may still be stuck. Consider letting your tresses air dry first to prevent hair damage. If you're in a hurry, you can use a blow dryer with a diffuser to hasten the process.

  6. Don't force your comb through areas where the glue is still firmly stuck. Apply more oil to those stubborn pieces before combing again.

  7. It may be necessary to repeat the whole process. The second time, you may want to leave the oil on longer and massage it into the areas with glue remaining.

To make the process of how to remove hair bonding glue easier, work through your hair in sections so you don’t miss any areas. Eventually, your hair will be glue-free.
