How to Remove Stretch Marks

If you visit cosmetic surgery clinics, you will encounter many women who want to know how to remove stretch marks. Stretch marks are unsightly white marks that look like scars on the surface of the skin. They are usually found on the abdomen, thighs, hips, and butt. They commonly occur after pregnancy because of the expansion of the skin in the abdominal area. However, even women who have never been pregnant can have stretch marks since they also occur during puberty and periods of rapid weight gain. Although stretch marks are said to be permanent, there is something you can do to diminish their appearance. You can choose between surgical and non-surgical methods. Take note of the following tips:

  1. Apply moisturizers. Lotions and moisturizers keep the skin hydrated, thus improving the skin’s elasticity and appearance. Lotions work best on fresh stretch marks, and they may only minimally improve the appearance of old stretch marks.

  2. Apply cocoa butter. This is a very good moisturizer since it is able to penetrate the epidermis.



    Once it reaches the dermis, it can treat deeper stretch marks. It can be applied on the skin at least three times per day.

  3. Apply coconut oil. Coconut oil helps in tissue regeneration. Hence, it rebuilds the skin and minimizes the appearance of stretch marks. Moreover, it can soften the skin.

  4. Apply vitamin E oil. This is known to be the miracle cure for stretch marks, although it scarcely helps old stretch marks incurred during pregnancy. Instead of ingesting vitamin E capsules, you can puncture them and apply the oil directly to your stretch marks. This can help improve skin elasticity.

  5. Apply aloe vera. Because of aloe vera’s natural healing properties, it can help your skin heal itself. It is better to choose unscented, natural aloe vera since the additives can irritate the skin.

  6. Apply coffee grinds and olive oil. Combine the two, make them into a paste, and massage them onto your stretch marks for about five minutes. Then wrap a hot towel on the same area for about 20 minutes. Once done, wash off with warm water. For the best results, apply moisturizer afterwards. Do this once to thrice a week, and you can witness results in as little time as two weeks.

  7. Eat a well-balanced diet. Aside from applying stuff on your stretch marks, you should nourish your skin from the inside. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables since they contain vitamins and minerals that are necessary for skin repair. Also increase your intake of vitamin C-rich foods, since they can improve the appearance of stretch marks. You can take vitamin supplements too.

  8. Get a laser treatment. You have two options for laser treatment. The first one is the pulsed dye laser treatment or vascular laser. This is best used for fresh stretch marks right after pregnancy. Three to six sessions are required, and each session costs around $450. On the other hand, if you have older, silver stretch marks, you can have laser resurfacing or fractional laser treatment, which costs around $1,000 per session. Up to three sessions are required.

  9. Get an abdominoplasty. If you are not afraid to go under the knife, then get a tummy tuck. However, remember that every surgical operation, no matter how minor, involves some risks and complications. Recovery time can range from 3-6 months. Also, it costs between $4,000 and $20,000.

Stretch marks are not really harmful to the body. However, if you want to improve your appearance, it pays to know how to remove stretch marks both naturally and surgically.
