  9. Give your locks a rest from hairstyles that tug or require them to be tightly wound together, like braids, twists, or weaves. For braids, leave them in for a maximum of six to eight weeks. You need to wash and deep condition them afterwards so they don't get brittle and dry.

  10. Minimize exposure to the elements like sun, wind, and chilly temperatures. Use protective gear like hats, scarves, or umbrellas so your hair won't take any more of a beating from various environmental conditions.
