How to Repair Damaged Hair at Home

Is your hair feeling more like the ends of a broom than a crowning glory? There are ways to bring shine, bounce, and vibrancy back to your mane without having to spend an arm and a leg for this purpose. You can even do it in the comfort of your own home! If you're looking for tips on how to repair damaged hair at home, look no further. Go through these steps right away to bring your tresses back to the pink of health:

  1. First, stop exposing your hair to things or situations that damage it. If you have your hair colored quite frequently, consider taking a couple of months off to let your tresses recover. If you blow dry or iron your hair daily, consider minimizing the frequency or shifting to air drying. If you must style your hair, you can simply put it in rollers. Also, avoid using hot water on your hair and don't over-brush or comb it.

  2. If you have split ends, consider trimming the ends of your mane yourself. Cut back about half an inch off the tips to rid your strands of those frayed ends.

  3. You can make your own hair-repairing concoction using ingredients that you can find right in your own kitchen. Honey is one example, as this naturally attracts and locks in moisture on your skin or hair. Simply spread about half a cup (or more if your tresses are longer) of this natural sweetener on clean, damp hair. Let it stay on for about 20 minutes, after which you can rinse it off with warm water. Adding one to two tablespoons of olive oil can help make the application easier.

  4. For extra moisturizing action, mix honey with one to two tablespoons of egg yolk or avocado. Make sure that you combine both very well. Spread it on your hair, leave it on for about 20-30 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. You can do this treatment about once a month. According to Mother Nature Network, the protein-rich egg yolk or avocado can help replenish the keratin protein bonds that are damaged by heat or UV rays.

  5. You can also mix eggs and yogurt, adding a little bit of lemon juice. Spread this all over your hair and leave it on for at least an hour. Rinse afterwards.

  6. Another option is to use virgin coconut oil, which you can find at most supermarkets and wellness shops. Massage it on your scalp and smooth over your crowning glory. You can cover your hair with a shower cap, then wrap it with a towel and leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash off the application with a gentle shampoo.

  7. Light mayonnaise can help ease the frizz and dryness of your hair. Spread just enough to cover your strands and leave it on overnight under a shower cap.

  8. Always condition your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair moisturized. You may also use protein or deep treatments at certain times during the week to restore your hair's keratin bonds.

  9. Make sure your hair is protected from the sun and wind. Wear a hat or use an umbrella when going out. You can also use a styling product that acts as a sunscreen for your hair.

  10. Brush your hair with care and keep it from tangling or getting caught by various items throughout the day. You can use hair ties to keep your mane in place.

  11. At night, wear a satin sleep cap or cover your hair with a satin or silk scarf to prevent the strands from rubbing unnecessarily or tangling.

  12. Do you swim? Cover your hair with a swim cap to protect your tresses from chlorine or salt.

It's great to know how to repair damaged hair at home as these tips are not at all expensive and are very easy to do. Share these tips with friends who may need a little help in the hair department!
