How to Restore Damaged Hair in One Week

Excessive shampooing, getting hair treatments more often than recommended, and being exposed to the sun for too long can damage your hair. Fortunately, tried and tested methods on how to restore damaged hair in one week can bring your hair back to life. Plus, you can do them in the comfort of your own home, so you don’t have to spend big bucks on salon treatments.

  1. Step 1: Stop using shampoo for at least one week to avoid damaging your hair further. Use only conditioner for the next few days in order to bring back moisture to your hair. When you apply conditioner to your hair, comb your hair from the roots to the very ends and leave it to set for 5 to 10 minutes. You help your hair get softer with the amount of time you allow the conditioner to set. After that, rinse out most of the conditioner while making sure that you leave some to settle in your hair in order to lock in moisture.

  2. Step 2: Do a deep conditioning treatment once a week. It penetrates deep into your strands and keeps them hydrated for the entire week.

To do this, purchase a deep conditioner with natural ingredients. Take one tablespoon of deep conditioner and comb it through your hair, from the roots to the tips. Afterward, cover your hair with a shower cap and let it set for an hour before rinsing it off. You may also opt to use olive oil, almond oil, or coconut oil. Lastly, make sure that you only use a deep conditioner once a week since doing so more times will actually damage your hair.

  3. Step 3: You can also use a homemade hair mask to bring back the vitality of your hair. To do this, dampen your hair in the shower and apply the hair mask. The following homemade hair mask recipes can actually do the trick:

    a. Dry Hair: Apply a tablespoon of yogurt or milk to your hair and let it set for a few minutes. Rinse your hair with shampoo and water afterwards.

    b. Frizzy Hair: Apply one blended avocado or banana and let it set. You can rinse your hair with water alone or with shampoo and water.

    c. Dull Hair: You can apply one egg white or one tablespoon of honey to your hair and let it set for a few minutes. Rinse with shampoo and water.

  4. Step 4: After showering, use a serum or finishing oil to protect your hair from the elements. You can use a combination hair oil or anti-frizz serum. You can also use oils, such as Jojoba oil, Moroccan oil, and Argan oil, to protect your hair. Then, allow your hair to air dry, instead of using a blow dryer or heat styling tools.

  5. Step 5: Develop healthy eating habits to support your hair’s optimal health. Food rich in omega-3 fatty acids, iron, and protein do a great job in providing your hair with the right nutrients. You can get a good dose of hair-healthy nutrients from flaxseed, nuts, avocados, sardines, and salmon. In extension, keep yourself well-hydrated throughout the day. If you are dehydrated, it can result in your hair getting brittle and dry.

Avoid smoking as well since doing so makes your hair dry and dull. These simple tips on how to restore damaged hair in one week will revive your hair to its former glory without breaking the bank. Doing simple and healthy rituals is actually more effective than using chemical treatments, which can damage your hair. So keep your kitchen and bathroom well stocked with the above mentioned ingredients to make your hair healthier and more vibrant than ever.
