Ways & How

how to say no nicely

how to say no nicely

Some people will just agree on something that they know they cannot deliver because they hate to make the person feel embarrassed right in front of them. These people are cowards in a way. Learning how to say “no” nicely is a big help so as not to ruin your reputation and give the one who needs help the time to find someone else for the task that you did not accept. This way, you will not cause anyone any damage. Here are some methods:

  1. Know your priorities. If you think that you can’t cater to the request because of the many other commitments that are important to you personally, refuse by explaining that. For example, you can say, “Sorry, I just got a new job, and I have to go through training on weekends to enhance my skills to be at par with the company’s standards. Hope you understand.”

  2. Be honest when you have to refuse a request. No one can be happy doing the things that he or she detests. You can say that contrary to your beliefs, you see no point in distributing leaflets to promote your religion in public because it needs a personal approach to let the recipient know the importance of the Gospel.

ould rather continue to conduct Bible studies at home.

  3. When you’ve sensed that your kindness is being abused by friends and relatives by asking you to do their responsibilities so that they can go on gambling sprees, speak up. Say to them, “You can have quality bonding time with your child if you are here for him or her.”

  4. No one can expect you to drop your responsibilities to do theirs if it’s not a matter of life and death. Even so, you still have to create a balance between your tasks and in helping others. If you really can’t do anything about it, explain nicely but firmly that you are really busy, and it will cost you your job if you do not meet your employer’s expectations.

  5. If you are already in a dilemma on how to juggle housework, office tasks, and child care,  do not exhaust yourself by taking on more requests from other people. When you are asked to monitor a neighbor’s house while they are away on vacation, just say, “I’d love to, but I hardly get enough sleep to manage my own daily personal tasks. Your house will be safer with someone else.” Mind you, you are not obliged to explain the details of your excuse, but go ahead if you are inclined to do so.

  6. Be polite in explaining that you do not have the know-how to organize a charitable event. There may be others that can do the job better than you can.

  7. Suggest another person who loves to do what was asked for. You can decline and still be helpful at the same time. “I am not a good writer, but a friend can do write-ups professionally if you can acknowledge her work.”

The quality of your life will depend on your planning skills. Do not mess up with your schedule just because you don’t know how to say “no” nicely. Your performance will be very poor if you spread yourself too thin. It is better not to have recognition for extra work done rather than be blamed for causing substandard results. You will retain a good balance of your well-being if you prioritize well enough despite the challenges.
