How to Shave Bikini Area

How to Shave Bikini Area

Shaving your own bikini area can be one of the most challenging things that you might do for the purposes of beauty and hygiene. While the steps that you should take are essentially the same as the steps in shaving your underarms or legs, you need to be extra careful in shaving your bikini area because it is a very sensitive area that should not be rushed through. In fact, you need to be very patient when learning how to shave bikini area. If you are sure that you have the time and patience to do this, here are the steps for shaving your bikini area the right way:

  1. Decide on the look of your pubic area. Shaving your bikini line does not mean that you should shave all the hair down there. You can spice it up a little by deciding how you want your pubic area to look. If you want to be as hair-free as a baby, then you should go Brazilian-style and shave all the hair off. You may also create a thin landing strip from your belly button to labia. Some people even use stencils to create a fun shape with their pubic hair. These stencil kits are available in adult stores.

  2. Prepare your bikini area for shaving. There are certain steps that you need to remember when preparing your pubic area prior to shaving. First, you need to trim the hair to about ΒΌ inch in length so that the razor will not get clogged while shaving. You can either use a pair of scissors or an electric razor to do this. Taking a hot shower or bath and exfoliating the skin down there can also help in softening the hair cuticles, thus making shaving a lot easier and faster. Right before shaving, apply some shaving oil to let the razor glide smoothly on your skin and prevent razor burns afterwards. As with any other body part, remember to put a shaving gel or cream on the area to be shaved to avoid redness and irritation afterwards. For sensitive skin, opt for unscented shaving creams designed for pubic hair use.

  3. Start shaving using long and even strokes. Use a fresh blade for shaving. Slowly shave along the direction of hair growth to avoid skin irritation, and then shave also in the opposite direction to trim your hair shorter. However, avoid going over one area too many times since this can result in inflamed skin. Rinse the blade in between strokes to avoid clogs. Remember also to shave the hair between your thighs as well. If there are still any stray hairs on your bikini area, you can use tweezers to remove them individually if you do not mind the temporary stinging sensation.

  4. Rinse the area and apply an aftercare cream. When you finish shaving your bikini area, cleanse it with mild soap and water and pat it dry with a towel. Exfoliate the area again to get rid of dead skin and prevent ingrown hair in the future. You may use a sugar scrub or baking soda paste to accomplish this. After exfoliating, moisturize the newly-shaven area using an unscented and non-colored moisturizer. Finally, pat some baby powder over the area to reduce irritation, but do not apply anything on the vaginal area to avoid infections.

Once you have learned the basics on how to shave bikini area, it might seem tempting to start shaving at the first sign of growing pubic hair. However, you have to allow a few days to pass in between shaves so as not to irritate the skin. For a more permanent or longer-lasting solution, try other techniques for hair removal such as laser treatment and waxing.
