How to Stop Body Hair Growth

Hair growth is a natural occurrence on all human bodies. However, a lot of people, especially women, do not want hair growing all over their body. That is why they go to a lot of trouble in trying to remove unwanted hair. On the other hand, hair growth is not necessarily a problem for most men, but excessive hair growth might be an issue. Needless to say, a lot of people have wondered how to stop body hair growth. There are several ways to do this, and here are some of the recommended ones:

  1. Pluck the hair. Use tweezers to pluck your hair. When you pluck your hair, you stretch the skin and completely pull the individual hair out, including its root. This is best for small areas of the skin where hair grows, such as the chin or the eyebrows, since this is a painstaking and time-consuming process. You may want to avoid lotions and moisturizers that contain perfumes and alcohol. If you develop red bumps on the shaved area, some doctors recommend immediately applying an over-the-counter cortisol cream. Some people believe that shaving will make your hair grow back coarser and thicker, but this is a myth.

  3. Use depilatory creams. Depilatory creams are chemicals that dissolve the protein in your hair, allowing it to fall off. This is just as convenient as shaving because it only takes a short time to eliminate unwanted hair from your body. However, this is only a temporary fix and is less effective on larger areas.

  4. Wax your hair. Just like plucking, waxing also slows down hair growth to the waxed area of your body. In addition, constant waxing can reduce the density of hair growth, thus making your unwanted hair more manageable. When you go for a waxing session, make sure that all the hair you want to remove has grown uniformly so that it will all come off in one go. Perhaps the main disadvantage of waxing is that it is quite painful. This can be applied to larger areas of your body.

  5. Eat soy products. Women who are hairy have an excessive production of testosterone, a male hormone. Testosterone does occur naturally in all women, but usually in smaller amounts, which is why most women do not exhibit male characteristics. Women with an excess of testosterone should eat more soy products since these promote the release of the female hormone estrogen, thereby suppressing testosterone production. Aside from soy products, you should also eat more foods rich in vitamin B6, since this suppresses prolactin, the hormone responsible for stimulating testosterone. Examples of food rich in vitamin B6 include cereals, bananas, potatoes, fish, and peanuts.

  6. Undergo laser hair removal. Dermatologists nowadays offer laser hair removal, which is a revolutionary way of stopping hair growth altogether. In laser hair removal, the dermatologist directs a laser at the hair follicle, thereby completely stopping hair growth. You will need to undergo several sessions, depending on the amount of hair, in order to completely halt hair growth. Laser hair removal works best on people with dark body hair, since the laser color pigment is more easily absorbed by the body.
