How to Strengthen Hair Follicles

Healthy hair manifests from root to tip. You cannot have beautiful strands of hair if your hair follicles are not healthy. Your hair follicles are those small sacs found around the root of your hair. The oil glands secrete oil into these hair follicles, thus being responsible for lubricating and protecting your hair. Therefore, it is important for you to keep your hair follicles healthy and strong if you want your hair to reflect this. Here’s how to strengthen hair follicles.

  1. Watch what you eat. Your diet plays an important part in keeping your hair healthy. You should eat a lot of foods that contain iron, since this is important in carrying oxygen to your hair follicles. Without oxygen, your hair follicles will become weak. You should also eat foods that are high in zinc, such as seafood, since zinc helps to bind protein to your hair follicles, thus strengthening your hair. That being said, protein-rich foods should also be a part of your diet. Include vitamin-rich foods in your diet.

You can simply massage your scalp with your fingertips while applying shampoo to your hair. You may also give your hair a hot oil treatment and massage your scalp in the process. Leave the oil on your hair for about an hour in order for it to be absorbed into your hair follicles.

  4. Exercise. Exercising can actually do wonders for your hair. This will also increase the circulation of blood to your hair follicles, thus carrying more nutrients to them. Examples of exercises that you can do include walking, swimming, jogging, yoga, and cycling.

  5. Use mild products on your hair. Chemicals found in hair care products might impede the release of oil from your oil glands. Hence, your hair follicles and hair shafts are not naturally lubricated. Therefore, make sure that your shampoos and conditioners are sulfate-free. If shampooing every day tends to dry out your hair, cut back to shampooing every two to three days. Remember to always condition your hair every time you wash it in order to maintain its shine. Invest in natural and organic products as much as possible.

  6. Avoid stress. Stress can actually cause your hair follicles to weaken and prompt the appearance of gray hair. While you cannot totally eliminate stress, you can reduce its effects by relaxing and getting the right amount of sleep every night. In addition, you should learn how to remain calm during stressful situations.

  7. Use scalp-stimulating products. If you are a victim of hair fall-out, this is probably due to weak hair follicles. You should use scalp-stimulating products about twice a week in order to prevent any blockage that might be present in your hair follicles.

Knowing how to strengthen your hair follicles helps you achieve healthier and more gorgeous-looking hair. It will prevent your hair from getting dry and frizzy, thus reducing your occasional bad hair days. Aside from avoiding the application of harmful chemicals to your hair, you should also keep in mind that proper diet and exercise can help you achieve your goal of strengthening your hair follicles.
